This would be for 2027....yes, not a typo, next year. I'm thinking about a trip to Normandy (4-5 days Bayeux, including Carentan, Caen, and maybe a side trip to Mont Saint-Michel), then to Bastogne (2-3 days with a possible day trip to Wiltz), Colditz, and Berchtesgaden. Currently, this would be a solo trip, but I would love to find someone interested in this to travel with. I'm in the early stages of planning and it is almost a year away (currently thinking about June time frame), but would love to discuss with someone who shares the same interest. All travel would be done by rail....I don't anticipate renting a car.

There are a few tour companies that do "Band of Brothers" tours that cover some of your proposed itinerary.

You can do this on your own without having to join up with a tour group if you want to see specifically the sites listed above. Tour groups have their own sites which may not be aligned with your preferences.
On Colditz: Outside of Leipzig Hbf ( I don't recall which exit since it has been a few years I was there) there a bus depot. One of them has as its terminus "Colditz" ie, a direct shot to Colditz from Leipzig can be done. I would suggest including Torgau an der Elbe, Halbe, Frankfurt an der Oder, and Seelow if you're focusing on the Eastern Front as well.

"the route planned out".... Which places are these that you have chosen for the itinerary? Is this primarily an American based theme for the trip? You have Caen listed. Where specifically in the Caen area?

This is not an interest of mine, but I did have this link on hand,
I have no affection for renting a car, but I do think this is a project where a car makes many targets much easier to get to. In high season, we did find some parking lots full.

On going to Caen: how much time are you devoting to Caen and its surrounding area?
As suggested, the additional mobility provided by a rental car is essential if you want more than a superficial view of Caen and its museum. Without the car it's next to impossible to get out to the outlying villages with the possibility of the local museums and battlefield displays. You can get out to the villages eg, Viller Bocage, where German and British armour were pitted against each other.
