Hi Alex, I would love to travel with you if I wasn't bounded by work. I believe that you can meet people of similar interests along the way. When I was backpacking through Europe last summer, I was travelling in some places alone without my friends and I would say that they were one of the best parts of my trip. I talked to strangers during breakfast in my hotel and we traveled together to some places. I met locals friends along the way who invited me to their houses for meals. The experiences were really great! I got to taste the home cookings and witness the food culture.

You may want to look into joining couchsurfing - even if you don't stay with people, you can meet people along the way thru their country forums and whatnot - even just meet up with someone for a day and make a new friend!
