Travel Guard is a SCAM! I was unable to go on my trip to Egypt due to the current war in Iran as I am employed by the federal government. I told them this in my claim and I was denied. No refund whatsoever. They are a SCAM!
Unfortunately pretty much every insurance company has an exclusion for War. It doesn’t make insurance a scam.
Isn't Travel Guard one of the largest insurance companies in North America? Doubtful it's a scam. How closely did you read your policy prior to buying it? What was the stated reason you were denied? It's hard to determine if your review is credible without more info.
Travel Guard is NOT a scam. What did the fine print in your policy say about cancellation? You can purchase policy that has a "cancellation for any reason" but they generally are the most expensive policies. I assume you did not have a cancel for any reason policy. If you did they would have paid. Also, policies will often have a exclusion related to armed conflict. What was their reason for non-payment? I am sure they gave you a reason.
If you feel you meet the cancellation criteria set out in your policy and if you live in the US, your state probably has an Insurance Commission. You can open a claim with them to investigate whether Travel Guard wrongly denied your claim.
No judgement from me. I can’t imagine how disappointed you must be to lose your trip and then lose your money. Perhaps when you have had some time to deal with all the emotions you can deal with this a bit more objectively.
Could you clarify something for me? Your post makes it sound like your employer told you that you were not allowed to go to Egypt as a condition of employment. Did I understand that correctly? Or, did you simply feel that being a government employee increased your risk factors too much? I could understand if you did.
A first post that the webmaster will likely review tomorrow.
If your government employer refused to let you go, then maybe you should apply to them for compensation. If it was just your decision based on their 'recommendation', then I don't think you have a case. I hope you come back with further explanation.
