Searching for a travel buddy to go in Germany, 2025

Hi,
I'm a 19-year-old French girl who would like to go in Darmstadt, Germany this June 2025 but since it will be my first travel without my family, I would like to have a travel buddy with me. I'm searching for a girl preferably between 18 and 25s years old to come with me for around a week, and I aim to go in a youth hostel by train preferably, since I'm a student and I don't want it to be too expensive.

Thank you, Lisa

Lisa, you live in France and want to go to Germany?

Just so you know, this forum is mostly frequented by older American and Canadian travelers, so if you are looking for a younger travel partner, you might want to consider other avenues, like the r/travel subreddit, TikTok, even Facebook.

Regardless, good luck with your search.

I haven't used apps for this, but there are apps out there to help people find each other for travel. I think most are geared toward young single travelers. Two of the most popular ones are Backpackr and GAFFL. There are some more female-oriented (as opposed to COED-oriented) apps, too.

A few articles I ran across while searching on this topic for a young adult I know:

I was working in Darmstadt as a freelancer for a long time. It is a very friendly and science-oriented town with a lot of young people.

For public transport make yourself familiar with RMV pubic transport network (link to RMV French language version). Very local is HEAG Mobilo (German only).

Darmstadt Tourism website is helpful to explore the town. In June exploring the Bergstrasse until Heidelberg can be enjoyable.

If you want to learn German on the trip be informed that sometimes the locals there speak a regional Dialect called Hessisch (from state Hessen). Instead of high German "Guten Tag" the say "Gude" or "Ei Gude" or "Ei Gude, wie?". Also some Germans do not understand the fully spoken dialect.

Good luck for finding a travel partner. And have a good stay.
