An experienced cycle tourist is looking for one sociable, intrepid individual (over age 36) to join him on a two- or three-week bike trip in August/September, 2013. Washington, DC area residents only please so we can get acquainted first on local rides and plan the trip together later on. I'm considering the following itineraries: 1) Normandy and the Loire Valley of France or 2) Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia Casual cycling at 10-12 mph and an average of 40 miles a day over a total of 400-700 miles. Mostly rural areas and quiet back roads, plus an interesting larger town or two. B&B overnights. Lunches on the road & dinners in pubs and inexpensive restaurants. Interests: dramatic scenery, meeting the locals, historic & cultural sites, regional cuisine & brews and photography. Travel partner should have some road or self-contained touring experience, good stamina, a sense of humor and the willingness to bike in less-than-ideal weather.
