Affordable lodging in Paris and London

I have a two week vacation planned at the end of July and am looking for affordable lodging in both Paris and greater London. Any suggestions would be welcome. I would also be interested in travel companions. Warning - I am a writer so I like to sit and watch people and experience places more than I like to shop. Thanks Nikki

Hi Nikki. You may want to post the lodging part of your question in the appropriate forums here - more people will see them and answer. What's "affordable"? What's your budget? I can recommend the Hotel Cluny Sorbonne in Paris. We paid about 100 euros a night for a room for 2 people. In London I stayed at Vancouver Studios, which have kitchenettes in their rooms, and paid 75 pounds per night for a single room.
