Virtual Sacramento Travel Group Meeting? - Saturday May 16

Hello all, these are challenging times and we must be vigilant about physically distancing ourselves from others to stop the spread of Covid-19. But why should we miss another meeting? I don't think we should. Some of us have had to cancel trips, but we can share in our disappointment, talk about future trips, and get some trip reports from recent travelers.

We hope to have a virtual meeting on our normal 3rd Saturday at 10:00 a.m. It won't be the same, but the commute will be great. And for once you can bring your own food and drinks. Please wear something appropriate on top. Pants are optional. ;-)

We need someone tech savvy to volunteer to host on the platform of their choice. Is anyone willing to do this?

Edit: we have hopefully figured out how to do this on Zoom and I will host the meeting. 🤞🏼

Zoom away ! We miss sitting at the table with everyone, but can't say we miss the drive. See you on the 16th!

We still need someone willing to host this virtual meeting. Or at least someone who can walk me through how to set it up.

Okay, I think we have figured out how to host the meeting. I have email addresses for Eileen, Kitty, David, Kevin, Larry, Susan & Monte, Mona, Lauri, Susan, Sharyn & Betty. Nigel & Jo, I have your emails if you would like to participate. Everyone else, please PM me with your email if you'd like to be included.
Even if I have your email I would appreciate knowing if you will be participating. Thanks!!

Well, my Saturday Zoom schedule is getting pretty busy (seriously, it’s the new reality!) but I would like to check in at least for a little while.
So please save me seat even though I might be half an hour late.
Thanks, and I’m looking forward to seeing you all.

Yay! Figured out how to Zoom on the laptop, so Ed and I will be on one screen this time.

For all the couples planning to attend, based on April meeting it would be best to share a device.

I would enjoy attending again. Last one was fun and it will insure that I change out of my nightgown and robe to real clothing.

Matt, could you message me about how you were able to get the meeting set up for so long? Checking Zoom to set up a Scavenger hunt and it looks like for free, you only get 40 min.

Matt's Pro account isn't accessible for personal use any longer. Jo and Nigel, I'll make sure you receive the link to get into our meeting. I'm looking forward to seeing you both again. :-)

Kevin is hosting on a platform that I can't recall at the moment. People who I don't have an email for should PM me and I will forward the information to him.

No guarantees but this time tomorrow I’ll know if I can have the one-time use of a Pro account.

Thanks to Andrea and Kevin for taking the lead on hosting this month's gathering. I've forwarded email addresses to the latter so you should be receiving his invites soon for next Saturday. Look forward to catching up with everyone.

Kevin is hosting this months meeting using UberConference. We are going to do a quick test meeting using 3 devices today to see how it goes. When I spoke to him last night he mentioned a 2 hour time limit. If you haven't received an invitation from him yet, please let me know.

If you are part of a two person household, please share a device. Thanks.

UPDATE:

We did a practice UberConference call and it didn't go well. I will host the meeting using Zoom Pro. Look for your email invites.

Today's the day! I did a practice session last night, hosting my weekly Friday evening Virtual Happy Hour. There were 5 of us. Everything was fine for 3. The other 2, on their iPhones, couldn't see everyone in a galley view. They were only able to see whoever was speaking at the time. I don't know why they had a problem. I was using my laptop, which I never use. That's a learning curve, but I wanted to see how it would go for today. Normally I use my iPad. If anyone can explain to me how to set up a virtual background I would love to do that.

See everyone later!

Hey Andrea, if you are using your iPad you can add a background picture by clicking on the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner and choosing the Virtual Background option when you are in the Zoom meeting. You add a picture from your photo album. We’ve chosen a few pictures from 3 previous trips and are trying to narrow it down to one that will be a good background. So much fun to look at old pictures!

I was planning on using my Mac, since the screen is larger. I'm looking forward to seeing what background you choose. Can you change it at intervals during the meeting?

We had a marvelous time. Sorry I had to dip out early. How long did the rest of the band play on?

That was was a fun meeting and it was great to see everyone. The meeting lasted 4.5 hours. Short by our in-person meeting standards. I suspect we will be Zooming again next month. I'm envious of everyone that was able to change their backgrounds and I loved seeing all your personal travel photos. It was fun guessing where the photos were taken. I'm going to work on the virtual background before next months meeting. I plan to use the Mac again, as opposed to the iPad. I liked seeing everyone on one screen as opposed to scrolling between two screens.
