Tulsa Area Travel Group Meeting September 19 CANCELLED! see below for details

Our next travel group meeting will be Saturday, September 19, at 10:00 a.m. It'll either be at Panera Bread at 41st and Hudson (that's 5601 E. 41st, between Yale and Sheridan), or at LaFortune Park, one mile due south of that. I'll check with those folks who are most likely to come, and will post the meeting place a few days before the event. If we meet at the park, I'll post directions downthread, as I did last month.

The park meetings have been working very well, so that may well be where we will end up, especially since the virus numbers continue to increase here. Plan to bring a lawn chair if that's where we meet. We'll bring a small table.

Stan and I are just back from an all-too-brief camping trip, and may have a few stories to share. Kim has to go to a wedding that day, so she won't be able to come. :-( And Karen may have to work. :-( But Stan and I will be there, and we'll be glad to see anyone else who wants to come.

So let's get together and talk travel. Old trips, cancelled trips, future trips - let's take a break from all the bad news, virus topics, and politics, and share our travel dreams and stories. As always, all travel topics are open for discussion, and all comers are welcome. It's an open forum - come join in the fun.

If you love to travel, or would like to travel, or are curious about travel, come join us. Anyone is welcome; you don't have to have been on a Rick Steves tour, or any tour at all. You'll recognize us by the RS books on the table, and the big smiles on our faces.

Since Oklahoma is now in the Red Zone in two categories, we've decided to stick with LaFortune Park for our monthly meeting. If you feel comfortable coming, we'd love to see you. If you are not comfortable coming, then stay home and we'll try again in October. We totally understand.

Enter the park through the Garden Entrance, off 51st Street between Yale and Sheridan. The entrance is just a little east of Tandy YMCA, and directly across the street from a strip mall with a big sign saying "5525 S. Park Place." Head into the park on the Garden Road; it meanders a bit. Just about the time the road turns east, you'll spy a shelter. If you continue around the curve into the parking lot, you'll see a picnic table just to the west.

We will be at either the shelter or the picnic table, depending on the weather. The shelter does not have any tables or benches, so bring lawn chairs or folding chairs, and anything you want to eat or drink. The table has (obviously) a table and benches, but no shelter. If it's cloudy but not raining, that's probably where we'll be.

10:00 Saturday morning. And wear your mask, please. They're mandated in Tulsa, and even though we're meeting outside, we choose to be as safe as possible.

We'll see you there. Be prepared to talk about travel - let's take a break from Covid-19 and politics!

I'm sorry to be cancelling the meeting; we don't like to do that. But three of our regulars are working, out of town, or otherwise unable to attend. Stan and I were planning to go just in case some of our casual drop-ins dropped in, but something has come up that means we need to be home in the morning.

Nothing bad, just a situation that requires our presence.

We will have a meeting October 17; location TBA. I'll post that meeting early next month.

Sorry for any inconvenience; we just hate doing this.

And then at the last minute the work crew cancelled...

See you in October.
