Tulsa Area Travel Group Meeting November 21

It's meeting time again! Our next meeting will be Saturday, November 21, at 10:00 a.m. Since Covid cases in Oklahoma continue to rise, we're sticking with LaFortune Park for our monthly meeting. If you feel comfortable coming, we'd love to see you. If you are not comfortable coming, then stay home and we'll try again in December. We totally understand. We're hopeful about the weather, but this is Oklahoma, after all. We're in the high 70s this week; there were days last week when we didn't get out of the 30s!

Enter the park through the Garden Entrance, off 51st Street between Yale and Sheridan. The entrance is just a little east of Tandy YMCA, and directly across the street from a strip mall with a big sign saying "5525 S. Park Place." Head into the park on the Garden Road; it meanders a bit. Just about the time the road turns east, you'll spy a shelter. If you continue around the curve into the parking lot, you'll see a picnic table just to the west.

We will be at either the shelter or the picnic table, depending on the weather. The shelter does not have any tables or benches, so bring lawn chairs or folding chairs, and anything you want to eat or drink. The table has (obviously) a table and benches, but no shelter. If it's cloudy but not raining, that's probably where we'll be. Since we'll all have our folding chairs anyway, we won't have any trouble social distancing. Last month there was a run going on at the park, and our favored places were taken. We found some benches (but no tables) east of the parking lot, overlooking a pond. So if you don't see us, look around.

And wear your mask, please. They're mandated in Tulsa, and even though we're meeting outside, we choose to be as safe as possible.

So let's get together and talk travel. Old trips, cancelled trips, future trips - let's take a break from all the bad news, virus topics, and politics, and share our travel dreams and stories. I'm thinking we need a theme this month. Favorite meals? Worst meals? Funniest mishaps? I'll consult with Kim and see what we can come up with.

But as always, all travel topics are open for discussion, and all comers are welcome. It's an open forum - come join in the fun.

If you love to travel, or would like to travel, or are curious about travel, come join us. Anyone is welcome; you don't have to have been on a Rick Steves tour, or any tour at all. You'll recognize us by the RS books on the table, and the big smiles on our faces.

Shannonbraley36: Tulsa is one of the hidden gems of our country. We have world class art museums, one of the 10 best ballet companies in the country, and two symphony orchestras. The downtown area is second only to Miami FL for art deco architecture.

We also have professional soccer, AA baseball, and we're within easy driving of major college sports events.

We're also within an easy drive of mountains, (well, the Ozarks and the Ouachitas, not the tallest but stunningly beautiful;) sand dunes (really;) the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, and many many lakes, parks, trails and natural wonders.

It's well worth a visit. And if you're here on the third Saturday of the month, we'd love to have you join our group!

Looks like the post to which I was responding has disappeared. That's okay; I'll leave mine up.

Here's the update to our travel group meeting plans:

We're still planning to meet November 21, but Kim won't be able to make it. See the OP for directions to where we'll be in LaFortune Park.

It looks like the weather will hold; at least the predictions through next Thursday are good.

On the down side, the Covid numbers in Tulsa are skyrocketing, so if you do plan to come, please wear your mask. We will have plenty of room to spread out, and will probably cut the meeting short; say, about an hour?

Let's have a theme for this meeting: I'm thinking both the best and the worst meals you've had when travelling.
We'll see you then. Please don't worry if you aren't comfortable coming out. The numbers are getting scary. We completely understand.
