Tulsa Area Travel Group Meeting, March 21 - LOCATION CHANGE See post downthread.

March is here! And true to the old saying, it has come in like a lion - the wind today is roaring out of the south. But the daffodils are blooming, the hyacinths are opening, and my peach tree is trying to blossom. So my personal theme this month is Hope.

We're hopeful that the Covid-19 virus will come under control. We're hopeful that the tour companies will weather this storm. And as always, we're looking ahead to our own travel plans, full of hope and excitement.

Our next travel group meeting will be Saturday, March 21, at Panera Bread at 41st and Hudson (that's 5601 E. 41st, between Yale and Sheridan), at 10:00 a.m. Those of us who have travel plans for this year are still making changes, adding excursions, booking tickets, and asking for advice. Actually, several of us are asking for advice for tours for next year, or even the one after that!

And as always, all topics are open for discussion, and all comers are welcome. It's an open forum - come join in the fun.

If you love to travel, or would like to travel, or are curious about travel, come join us. Anyone is welcome; you don't have to have been on a Rick Steves tour, or any tour at all. You'll recognize us by the RS books on the table, and the big smiles on our faces.

We're not planning to cancel our meeting; if anyone is concerned about coming, let us know. I suspect at least Kim, Stan, and I will be there. Karen said she'll come if she can. Of course, any of this could change.

If we cancel, I'll post it here, and also on our Facebook page: Rick Steves Tulsa Area Travel Group.

We're having to move our March 21 Travel Group meeting, per Mayor Bynum's closing of all restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. We could cancel, but Kim and I are jonesin' for a meeting.

Let's meet at LaFortune Park at 10:00. That's on 51st between Yale and Sheridan, across from the Tandy YMCA. If you're googling, the address is 5202 S. Hudson Ave. Bring your own breakfast, coffee, whatever you want. Many restaurants and coffee shops are offering take-out service, so you can still get your favorite cappuccino and bagel.

The park has shelters, so unless it's miserably cold, we'll be okay. Either Kim or I will verify the location of the shelter nearest to the 51st and Hudson entrance in the next day or two; if we need to tweak the location, we'll post it here, as well as on our FB page: Rick Steves Tulsa Area Travel Group.

See you there!

Someone asked me for more explicit directions, since LaFortune is a very large park.

Enter the park through the Garden Entrance, off 51st Street. That's just a little east of Tandy YMCA, and directly across the street from a strip mall with a big sign saying "5525 S. Park Place." Head into the park on the Garden Road; it meanders a bit. Just about the time the road turns east, you'll spy a shelter. That's where we'll be.

It's supposed to be chilly Saturday, and possibly rainy. That's why we wanted a shelter. Bring lawn chairs or folding chairs, and anything you want to eat or drink. Think of it as camping out with your travel group buddies! 10:00 Saturday morning.

If anyone has a better idea by noon Friday, let me know. Anyone thinking of coming, check back here or on our FB page for updates.

See you Saturday!

We managed to have our meeting. Before anyone pounces on us: There were only four of us, we met outside in a huge park, we sat about 6 feet apart, and we had a wonderful time. Even with all the questions about our upcoming trips, it was good to get together and share our thoughts, fears, and hopes. Then we all went straight home.

See you again in April, folks.
