Tulsa Area Travel Group Meeting July 18, Location Set: LaFortune Park. See below for details.

Our next travel group meeting will be Saturday, July 18 at 10:00 a.m., but we're not sure where, yet. It'll either be at Panera Bread at 41st and Hudson (that's 5601 E. 41st, between Yale and Sheridan), or at LaFortune Park, one mile due south of that. I'll check with those folks who are most likely to come, and will post the meeting place a few days before the event. If we meet at the park, I'll post directions downthread, as I did last month.

We've had a few meetings lately in the park, and it worked out reasonably well. (If only they'd open the bathrooms!) Last month Stan and I stopped in at Panera on our way, and the place was almost empty, so that's a possibility this time. We'll keep track of how the virus is trending in our area, and let that inform our decision. And of course we will understand if folks are not comfortable gathering yet.

The good news is Kim's work event was cancelled, so she will be there! Stan and I will come, and last I heard Jesse might make it. Karen usually comes if she doesn't have to work. Anyone else?

So let's get together and talk travel. Old trips, cancelled trips, future trips - let's take a break from all the bad news and share our travel dreams and stories. As always, all topics are open for discussion, and all comers are welcome. It's an open forum - come join in the fun.

If you love to travel, or would like to travel, or are curious about travel, come join us. Anyone is welcome; you don't have to have been on a Rick Steves tour, or any tour at all. You'll recognize us by the RS books on the table, and the big smiles on our faces.

Location for our July 18 Tulsa Area Rick Steves Travel Group meeting:

Given the continued increase in Covid-19 cases in Tulsa, we've decided to hold our July meeting at LaFortune Park. If you feel comfortable coming, we'd love to see you. If you are not comfortable coming, then stay home and we'll try again in August. We totally understand. Kim, Stan, and I will plan to be there by 10:00.

Enter the park through the Garden Entrance, off 51st Street. That's just a little east of Tandy YMCA, and directly across the street from a strip mall with a big sign saying "5525 S. Park Place." Head into the park on the Garden Road; it meanders a bit. Just about the time the road turns east, you'll spy a shelter. If you continue around the curve into the parking lot, you'll see a picnic table just to the west.

We will grab the picnic table if we can; otherwise, we'll be at the shelter. The shelter does not have any tables or benches, so bring lawn chairs or folding chairs, and anything you want to eat or drink. Think of it as camping out with your travel group buddies! 10:00 Saturday morning.

We'll see you there. Be prepared to talk about travel - let's take a break from Covid-19 and politics!

And Mayor Bynum has finally mandated masks! Be sure to wear a mask. We can probably manage to sit 6 feet apart, especially if we're in the shelter, but bring your mask, just in case.

Most of the people who come to our meetings are not from Tulsa proper, but we respect the guidelines set down by the mayor and the city councilors.
