Tulsa Area Travel Group Meeting August 19 - Location Change!

EDIT BECAUSE OF TORNADO DAMAGE! Our regular spot was hit by last night's tornado. Nobody there was hurt, and here's the touching part: Panera employees at that location were there in the early morning doing the day's baking. After their store was damaged, they donated all the freshly-baked goods to the Emergency Responders working in the area. Here's hoping they can reopen soon, but for this month we're going to change our location.

Here's the original post, with the location changed:

Okay folks, this is definitely the month for you to come try out our RS Travel Group. We'll be meeting Saturday, August 19 at Panera Bread at 91st and Memorial (at the shopping center on the northwest corner; that's 8922 S.Memorial) at 10:00 a.m.

We're going to have lots to share and enjoy this month. Kim is bringing her scrapbook from her recent Barcelona-Madrid tour; Stan and I will be there having recently returned from our wonderful Village Italy tour; and Jesse will be back with tales and pictures from Yellowstone. Bill and Chris are planning a cruise this fall; we hope they can come so we can share their excitement.

So how about it, Green Country? Come join the fun.

If you love to travel, or would like to travel, or are curious about travel, come join us. Anyone is welcome; you don't have to have been on a Rick Steves tour, or any tour at all. You'll recognize us by the RS books on the table, and the big smiles on our faces.

Jane & all -

we will have to find another meeting place. The tornado that went thru has hit our Panera Bread!! Pretty scary night last night. The path that even went thru Broken Arrow was just two block north of my house. Patio furniture was tossed around on our deck.

Wow! It wasn't too bad here, although I haven't checked the status of our rickety garage. We did get 2" of rain, and lots of wind. So you two are okay?

Is there still a Panera at 71st and Lewis? I know there's one way east, out by Mingo, but I'd like to keep the meeting more central. I'll check it out. And if you have any other suggestions, let me know.

Yes we are OK. lot of trees and fences down in my neighborhood. Only our patio furniture was tossed around.

No the Lewis one closed!! There is one at 71st off of mingo now by lowes, but that is a hard location to get in and out off.

the one at 71st and garnet closed....it moved to the that one at mingo.

91st and memorial probably would be easier. It is in the north east corner shopping center

OK, let's go with 91st and Memorial, at least for now. That's closer for you and Bill, isn't it? And I can take the Creek Turnpike if I'm in a hurry. The phone book (yes, I still have one) shows one at Tulsa Hills, but that place is a zoo. I tried Panera's website, but for some reason couldn't access it.

We can brainstorm on this when we meet the 19th.

OK; I'm editing the original post. But I think it's the north west corner. Even numbers on the west side in Tulsa.

According to this morning's paper, our Panera was so badly damaged the building (and much of the associated shopping center) has been condemned. No word yet on whether they'll rebuild.

Thoughts and prayers to all the victims. No deaths, but millions of dollars of damage, many businesses destroyed, and several people seriously injured. If this had to happen, it's fortunate it happened at 1:00 a.m.; all but a few businesses were closed. Most of the injured were enjoying a Saturday night out at TGIFriday's.

Hate to do this, but I am going to miss this months meeting. My girlfriends from Duncan want me to meet them in OKC for the day. I haven't got to see them in over a year and am looking forward to it. I will bring my Yellowstone pics next month. I work right down from our old Panera's and it is very sad. We were off Monday because we didn't have electricity.

Jesse, we'll miss you. We were looking forward to seeing you, but we'll meet up in September. Our meeting then should be Sept 16; we'll let you know where we're meeting.

And enjoy the day with your friends!

Jesse - will miss ya, have fun with friends. Hope to see ya in September.

Jane - I am still trying to think of other possibilities to meet at if don't continue at 91st and memorial until our other Panera is rebuilt. I have not heard if they will, have you?

Other spots could be the Old School bagel on 68th and Yale area.

Einstein bagels ... one is at 101 and memorial; 71st and yale, think there are two others also.

Do the bagel places care if we just have a coffee or bagel and then stay for 2 hours? That's what I like about Panera.

See you Saturday. I sent Bill a PM, but haven't heard back from him yet. He tends to reply the morning of the meeting, after I've already left the house! (No cell phone, so if I've left, that's it!)

Not sure.... I have never been there. We can probably stay at 91st memorial if and when 41st get back up and running.

I like by bagel and coffee at Panera! :)

Good meeting today, even if Jesse and Bill couldn't make it. Kim brought her scrapbooks, and we only managed to get through one of them. We did spend part of the time catching up - we hadn't seen each other since May - and finished off by talking about our upcoming (2018, 2019) tours.

So next month (Sept 16) we'll enjoy Kim's Barcelona-Madrid scrapbook, and maybe Stan will have our Village Italy pictures organized by then. (insert rolling-eyes emoji here!)

The new (temporary, we hope) location isn't as gemütlich as our previous one, but we're hoping our favorite Panera will manage to repair the tornado damage and welcome us back.

I'll post the next meeting after September 1.

Jane - you always write good reports!!.

Keeping fingers crossed for our Panera to return. I just finished watching a RS Switzerland show. I think I may have to add that Switzerland trip to 2021 list. Ha-Ha
