Tulsa Area Travel Group Meeting August 15, LaFortune Park. See below for details.

Our next travel group meeting will be Saturday, August 15 at 10:00 a.m. It'll either be at Panera Bread at 41st and Hudson (that's 5601 E. 41st, between Yale and Sheridan), or at LaFortune Park, one mile due south of that. I'll check with those folks who are most likely to come, and will post the meeting place a few days before the event. If we meet at the park, I'll post directions downthread, as I did last month.

The park meetings have been working well, so that may well be where we will end up, especially since the virus numbers continue to increase here.

Stan and I are trying to get away for a couple of weeks for an in-state camping trip (since some of our neighboring states have instated quarantines.) It's been too long since we've been camping, and Oklahoma has some great state parks. By August 15 I should have a pretty good idea of where and when we'll be traveling, especially since the state parks are now requiring campsites be reserved in advance. No more wandering as our whimsy takes us, at least not this year. But we're looking forward to the getaway, and will be delighted to share our plans and ask for tips for side trips come meeting day.

So let's get together and talk travel. Old trips, cancelled trips, future trips - let's take a break from all the bad news and share our travel dreams and stories. As always, all travel topics are open for discussion, and all comers are welcome. It's an open forum - come join in the fun.

If you love to travel, or would like to travel, or are curious about travel, come join us. Anyone is welcome; you don't have to have been on a Rick Steves tour, or any tour at all. You'll recognize us by the RS books on the table, and the big smiles on our faces.

Since we're going to be traveling by car, and camping in a tent, I think we can have a session on "packing heavy." Hmmm, I think I'll start a thread on that. Either packing heavy, or how to lighten our regular carful of stuff.

I'll work that up later; too much to do this afternoon.

You should have seen our car when we went to Edmond ok for our son’s wedding. We took 3 large suitcases plus other stuff!

Kim, LOL!

And we're always so pleased with ourselves for how light we travel to Europe! I remember once my brother took us to the airport for a trip to Italy, and he himself was taking a flight to Chicago. He was flabbergasted that he was taking more luggage for a weekend in Chicago than Stan and I together were taking for three weeks in Europe.

Given the continued increase in Covid-19 cases in the Tulsa area, we've decided to stick with LaFortune Park for our monthly meeting. If you feel comfortable coming, we'd love to see you. If you are not comfortable coming, then stay home and we'll try again in September. We totally understand. At least four of us are planning to come.

Enter the park through the Garden Entrance, off 51st Street between Yale and Sheridan. The entrance is just a little east of Tandy YMCA, and directly across the street from a strip mall with a big sign saying "5525 S. Park Place." Head into the park on the Garden Road; it meanders a bit. Just about the time the road turns east, you'll spy a shelter. If you continue around the curve into the parking lot, you'll see a picnic table just to the west.

We will be at either the shelter or the picnic table, depending on the weather. The shelter does not have any tables or benches, so bring lawn chairs or folding chairs, and anything you want to eat or drink.

10:00 Saturday morning. And wear your mask, please. They're mandated in Tulsa, and even though we're meeting outside, we choose to be as safe as possible.

We'll see you there. Be prepared to talk about travel - let's take a break from Covid-19 and politics!
