Tulsa Area Travel Group Meeting April 20

Edit to add: If you've clicked on this topic, be sure to read the comments. We're having a special guest this month, Kim from Paris! Now, carry on.

Finally! April is here, and we are sooooo ready for spring. It's chilly today, but the prediction for the rest of the week is highs in the 70s - yes! And our spring and summer trips are that much closer...

Our next travel group meeting will be Saturday, April 20, at Panera Bread at 41st and Hudson (that's 5601 E. 41st, between Yale and Sheridan), at 10:00 a.m.

All topics are open for discussion, and all comers are welcome. This is our last meeting before several of us take off for Europe, so expect France and England to be topics of conversation. KIm and I will be bringing our Paris plans, for a final compare-and-contrast before our tours. We are so excited to be heading off to La Belle France. Oh, and Kim should have her guide and tour mate list for her London trip. That's always interesting. The last time she brought a trip roster to a meeting, I found two people we had traveled with before! And those of us who are looking ahead to 2020 may bring up Italy and Scandinavia, as well - if we have time. But it's an open forum - come join in the fun.

If you love to travel, or would like to travel, or are curious about travel, come join us. Anyone is welcome; you don't have to have been on a Rick Steves tour, or any tour at all. You'll recognize us by the RS books on the table, and the big smiles on our faces.

Jane, I’m coming home for Easter and will be there already on the 20th (supposed to arrive late the 18th if all goes well) !! I can come!

If you and Kim can be thinking of if there’s anything I can bring you that will help you save time on your trips — a starter carnet of metro tickets, or Paris museum passes or whatever. And we can figure out our meeting up plans for May!!

Very exciting, will see you in (a little less than) 3 weeks at Panera! I’ll be the short chubby one!! Haha

Fantastic! Can't wait to meet you. I'll think about what you might be able to bring, but your own sweet self will be more than enough.

Kim usually gets there early, and Stan and I will make a special effort to be on time. Look to the left as you enter the front door; Kim grabs a table there. We'll have RS things on the table, and will probably be wearing our "Keep on travelin'" Eiffel Tower t-shirts.

Woo-hoo! I'll email Kim right now.

Excellent! I’ll try to be on time but I am usually 10 minutes late! But at least this will get me up and out of the house and started with my day!!

Kim@Paris - wonderful news. I look forward to seeing you. I probably would not mind a set of the metro tickets. We arrive via Eurostar (as you know) on the 18th, so we will have the 18th, 19th, 20th and half day 21st on our own.

I am going to get up early in the morning to try to purchase Eiffel tower tickets. Wish me luck!!

Anxiously awaiting!!

Kim

Sounds fun. Kim, I absolutely will bring you a carnet, that way you won’t have to wait in the lines at Gare du Nord.

Good luck with the tower tickets!!

Jane, i’m not sure how much brain matter there is to be picked, but I am willing!

We're planning to take the airport bus from CDG to the Champs de Mars stop; our hotel is near there. So we can pick up a carnet later that day, if we need one. But thanks for the offer; I'll let you know if we think of something else. I need to check our schedule to see if we'll benefit from a Museum pass.

Ok Jane let me know. Glad to do whatever I can! I’m out of town weekend of 12-15 and then back for a couple of days before departing for Tulsa on the 18th.

I'm pondering the Musem Pass, but I don't think it will be worth it. We're arriving on a Saturday; our RS tour begins late Tuesday. We already have tickets for the Courtauld exhibit for Sunday... That doesn't leave a lot of time for museum hopping. We tend to take our time in museums, so it's unlikely we would hit eniugh to make the pass worthwhile.

I'll meditate on it a while and consider which of the attractions we're actually likely to visit those few days.

Jane - had to get up to go pee, and I checked on my phone via facebook and they were there. So I went to my computer and got four for us (Praters and Axleys) May 19, at 7:00pm (sunday)

Don't know why they took so long to get out there. It was a day by day thingy. Hmmm.

Kim @ Paris - thank you for getting some metro tix. That will help when we arrive at the train station. If the have a bigger fold out map, pick a couple of up. I do have RS laminated one but they sure are tiny to read. I don't think we will need a museum pass. If we go to any museums, I think it will be ones that are the cheapest. Trying to hit the two free afternoons with the museum pass they will give us.

I have worked on the France trip more than London.. I feel sorry for London that I have not worked as hard on London than Pairs. LOL. We only arrive one day early to the RS London tour and we will have 3 days more in Paris. So there is lots of choices/things to do in those three days.
1) Versailles - Sunday 19th morning
2) Eiffel tower - Sunday 19th 7:00 pm
) Seine champagne river cruise - Monday 20th 6:00 pm
4)Van Gogh exhibit at Atelier des Lumieres - Tuesday 21th at 10:00

Then will fill in with other stuff.

Thanks for your assistance. Looking forward to seeing you at our RS meeting in a few weeks.

Ok I will get the metro tix today — will get a carnet and you can each have half!! That will get you throug your first metro rides. I will see if i can find a map too.

I fly tomorrow — although I see there is possible WEATHER in Atlanta as well . . . Oh well hopefully even with a day's delay, I’ll be in Tulsa by Friday evening and will be there Saturday a.m.!

Woot hoot. Can’t wait to meet you.

I have about 3 weeks til my 1st tour starts. Pretty much clothes ready and on my dining room table but still watching temps to decide if my choices are a go!!

Still got lots of stuff to do!

I just want to add a note about the great meeting we had. Jesse brought her Siena scrapbook, which we all enjoyed. Kim kept checking the RS site to see if the tour documents were out yet for our upcoming tours (no, they weren't.) And best of all? Kim from Paris dropped in to join us.

We had a great visit with her. She's just as much fun as she sounds like on this Forum. She shared tips about shopping (shhhh - don't tell Rick!), public transportation, and etiquette when dealing with the French.

We were delighted she found time to come visit our group. Anyone else who wants to visit is always welcome; we meet the third Saturday of each month. Details are in the OP above.

Sounds like a great time. Wish there was a travel group here in AK! I try to get my fix on this forum, but face to face is better.
I did meet Lola and Lane in Seattle when I popped down there, that was great.

diveloonie, we've met several of our Forum friends in real life, and it's always been a treat.
