Does anyone know of a Travel Group in the Boston, Massachusetts area? I searched through Rick Steve's Forum's, but I could not locate one. Thanks for any info. :)
There was one for a short time a couple of years ago. I think they met 2 or 3 times, but then disappeared. I never made it to one, I say guiltily. Maybe it should be tried again?
There are several people here who post regularly with a Boston or Boston area address in their profile.
Perhaps some of them would come along if you started one.
There were also some from ME.
Have a look at the last post in this (old, closed) thread:
https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/travel-meetings/how-about-maine
And this (old, closed) thread from 2 years ago is directly about the Boston area.
What I will say, is it needs somebody who isn't easily discouraged, who can be patient, who is willing to work at reminding people and building friendships with people, and who can be at the same place on the same day each month - then you have a really excellent chance of building up momentum. And, yes, it will probably be slow for a while.
I don't see any reason why Boston can't be like some of the several other cities around the US (and occasional other meetings around the globe) and be just as successful.
Thanks for the replies and Nigel, thanks for locating the old links. I'll try and keep this topic open and I'll make a list of anyone who posts any interest in attending a Boston meeting. Please list the area where you live so if and when we do have a meeting we can try to accommodate a location convenient to most people. I'll start:
Pilgrim - Boston, South Shore
Hi Pilgrim,
I would be interested in joining a Boston travel group.
Kristen
I'd be interested in a Boston group. I live in Cambridge and don't have a car so I couldn't attend any non T-accessible meetups, but I'm sure I could participate if some of the meetups are T-accessible.
Wray, Kristen, and Motorgirl, I will add you to the list. As I notice, I will private message posters that have a Boston location to see if they are interested in participating in a Boston Travel Group. It's a start - I guess two people would be considered a group, so we have a crowd already with four people in our group LOL.
Where ever will we find a venue big enough?!
Put me on the list too!
Hi Mary, I'll add you to the list.
For anyone interested, If it's not listed in your profile, please state your town so we can figure out a central location for everyone interested in attending a meeting. :)
Please include me even though I'm in Providence, as I could make it to a weekend meeting.
Thanks!
Cynthia
Please include us we are on Cape ..Brewster, Ma

Hi Pilgrim,
I was actually the one who tried starting this up a few years back. At the time, there weren't as many New Englanders on the forum as there are now.(YEAH!!). We did meet once (or twice?) - there were three of us at that point. Then, it just happened that the next three or four months, we all had differing schedules (upcoming weddings, vacations, graduations, etc) so it didn't last. There was a suggestion from other already-established groups that we keep it the third week of the month like all the other groups, for ease of posting/to avoid confusion on the forum. However, this was before there was a separate 'group' forum where you can post all the meetings now.
I am interested in joining your group if you want to pick a date. :)
By the way, I live in Andover, but i am willing to travel into Boston (or wherever).
It looks like we are getting a nice group together.
Gretchen (or anyone else), please feel free to initiate a meeting if you want. Currently my time is limited so I won't be able to initiate anything. Anyone in the group can initiate a meeting :)
If you do initiate a meeting, it may be best to start a new post so you would be emailed the responses directly.
Please put my name on the list as well! I live in Malden and would prefer Boston or the North Shore
