To Travel Meeting Organizers

Hello everyone,

It has become apparent that a recent update to the forum is making it harder to start new threads about an upcoming group meeting. The update is meant to keep our forum clean of spam and duplicate posts (more clean than before anyway). An unintended consequence is that for those of you who have so kindly spearheaded the organization of local travel group meetings, copying and pasting your previous announcement with a changed date will likely result in an error message.

I'm starting this thread for two reasons. The first is to find out if this is affecting you. Do let me know either in a PM or in a reply. The second is to say that I'll see what we can do adjust the recent change so that it impacts this section of our forum less.

Thanks for bearing with us.

I post a new comment as a reminder for each month’s meeting, so your changes will not affect the Portland group. However, I do have one comment. The header for travel group meeting announcements falls below the main display page listings. Consequently, folks do not see that there is a section for travel group meetings if they are not already aware that there are such meetings. This has been brought as an issue in some previous meetings in Portland. Would it be possible to move this category further up in the queue so that it appears on the main page of the travel forum?

Aha! That's what's going on.

I was finally able to post our upcoming meeting, but it took me five or six tries.

Edit to add: Ditto Patricia's request. I now scroll down automatically to find our heading, but there must be scads of folks out there who don't.

Thanks for the reminder, I forgot about the separate heading

I've tried several times to "edit" my last meeting notice of Dec. 15 without success. I added a comment as Patricia suggested but the date "Dec. 15" is still in the heading.
Please help!
Thanks,
Judy B

Thank you for looking into this. I also had the problem of wanting to post the same time sensitive information to both Northern California groups and I couldn’t. So if you have a suggestion or solution for this please let us know too. I wanted to get the word out about the $395 RT fare from SFO to Munich because I know both groups have some members who might want to take advantage of such a fleeting low fare.

Mona (Hi! I still remember our fun evening in Haarlem) I think I was able to get my notice posted by not cutting and pasting the title. I typed it in instead, and that seemed to work. I'm not sure, though. As I mentioned above, it took me five or six tries over two online sessions to get it posted. Maybe try changing the title?

Hi Jane we too have such fond memories of our meetup in Haarlem last year. Thanks for the tip but I Don’t think I had to worry about a title. I was just trying to respond with similar content in both N California threads and it wouldn’t let me. I even changed some words but that didn’t help. Hopefully Andrew will have some workarounds soon for duplicate posts (meeting announcements) and responses if necessary.

I know we’ve had some odd recent instances with duplicate content so I can see why they got rid of that ability but there are some legitimate needs for allowing it.
