Age discrimination? ? There are lots of "wanderlust spirit" people here who are looking back at 59.

Interest in travel IS the reason for starting a travel group -- the people attending the two groups I go to range from 30's to 70+. Some have kids at home, some travel solo, some like luxury travel, some look for bargains ... but we all learn from each other.

As a Shreveport native, I apologize for the OP's narrow minded response regarding age. OP, I encourage you to be a bit more inclusive. If it is truly a club, it should be about more than just what you are able to learn.

I might possibly understand limiting the age range if you are starting this "Travel Club" to find people to travel with. Possibly. You are new here, so maybe you saw the various travel groups and were unclear about what they encompass. To the best of my knowledge, the "Travel Groups" here are people who come together because of their love for travel, more specifically their love for European travel. I've never seen any other group here place limitations on the age range of the people who are welcome to participate.

My suggestion to you if you want to be the host of a club that has certain requirements is that you try to find people that meet your criteria some other way. Maybe a Meet Up group. The groups here don't have a host and while there is generally one person in a group that posts meeting information, no one person dictates who can be included in the group. You might be surprised at how much you would enjoy talking to a large age range of people who like to travel.

Ladybyrd, many well-traveled individuals fall into the above-60 segment so it would be unfortunate to exclude the valuable experience and information they may have to share. You may be thinking that anyone older than 59 has different travel styles and interests than those of younger ages but that's not true: they're just as diverse a lot as any other age group.

My Husband and I fall above the 60 mark, have traveled to Europe solo multiple times, explored many U.S. cities, and have hiked any number of U.S. National Parks. We've met others on some remote and challenging trails older than we are who could run circles around younger people so you might be surprised at what seniors have to bring to your party!

Wow, you guys have opened my eyes. I do apologize for age discrimination. I like people over the age of 59, I mean other than my mom. I see all your points and yes I am trying to start a club so I and my kids can start to travel and feel safe at the same time. Thanks for the meet up idea. I have iteneraries already planed for up to 30 people but no one to travel with.

Not that I didn't 'like' her but couldn't have traveled with my mother either, Ladybyrd: we had entirely different agendas. It wasn't as much about age as entirely different styles: at my same age, my parents were fond of escorted tours and having the details handled for them. Nothing a bit wrong with that but it's not our thing. Or not yet, anyway. We're also very casual travelers who never, ever pack fussy clothes, and are most comfortable in jeans and footwear that can handle anything from Italian cobblestones to a serious scramble in Utah's backcountry so we probably wouldn't fit well in every group. But the good thing is that there is something out there to suit all but the diehard homebody!

Mom's sister and husband - in their mid 70-s - just got back from Hawaii, drove a snappy red convertible all over the place, and are generally off on some sort of adventure more than they're home, I swear! They also travel separately sometimes: she goes to Europe with their daughter, and he goes off to do something else. Never a dull moment, those two.

I've been traveling since the early 70's. You asked for ideas. Well, why night take a RS tour with your child to see how to travel with open eyes and a open heart instead of pre conceived notions about age and a wanderlust spirit. I am also curious if you know who LadyBird was or her real first name. Check it out.

Itineraries for thirty people: are you looking to take people on trips, ie. start a business?

@ladybyrd, if you are looking for a travel partner or partners, there's a section just for that on this site where you can specify the age, gender, interests you want to find.

Ladybyrd, just to add my two cents to the age issue. It seems that a lot of really knowledgeable and experienced travelers are in the older demographic. In some cases people have had more time and money to afford to travel as they've gotten older. In our group I'm one of the youngest there but I come away really impressed with the travels of people older than me, and often quite inspired to follow in their footsteps.

I'm curious -- what do you mean "itineraries planned for 30 people"? People who attend these meetings don't normally travel together -- we just share tips & experiences.
