Sacramento Travel Group Meeting - Saturday 2/18 @ 10:00

It's that time again to meet with fellow travelers to talk about --- travel!!

As always, we meet the 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m.

Location - Panera Bread, 3571 North Freeway Blvd, Sacramento. This is off I-80, using the Truxel Rd. exit.

Everyone who wants to discuss their upcoming trips, reminisce about past trips, or just hang out and talk about travel is welcome.

Who's planning to be there? Everyone is welcome, but it's good to let us know. It gives us an idea of how many people we need to have seating for.

We will be there!

Vienna-Budapest-Berlin-Munich trip in March is pretty much set, so now looking for input on Italy in May. August 21 solar eclipse is also set (road trip!)

Wish I could be in two places at once! Since 3 of our core group won't be at our Moscow meeting, Doug and I won't want to miss it. Also I'm sure the Sacramento Group will manage to have a great meeting in spite of our absence.

Darcy, we'll try to get on without you ;-) We'll always have a place for you, though!

Lauri, do you have any ideas of where and what you'd like to do in Italy, or is that completely up in the air? Don't forget - I volunteered to be your Personal Valet first ;-)

Eileen, your thoughtful offer has been noted. ;-)

Italy is 28 days on the ground, in to Venice (3 days at Hotel Pensione Guerrato as per Andrea's last trip) and out of Rome. Considering: (=seen before)
Veneto area
Lake Como
Cinque Terre
Florence
/Siena/Lucca
Bologna
Assisi/Orvieto

Rome/Ostia Antica/Tivoli
Sorrento
/Capri/Naples Museum

And since we do sloow travel, probably not all of these.

Any other suggestions? Special stuff to do ?? Order of travel ?

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. We will miss you Darcy. :-)

Lauri, will you have a car in Italy at all? I have the perfect Agriturismo just outside Siena to tell you about. Eileen can tell you their experience staying there too. We had a car when we stayed. Eileen & Sid managed without one. You have to book ahead.

Thanks, Andrea -- will get the agriturismo name from you. Might have to leave it for another trip since it's now mid-February and we're going in May ... KLM/Air France had a sale too good to resist. Probably will have a car for that part of the trip.

I'll be there (assuming the creek don't rise ...)
Eileen, I'll have your bag with me to return.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Table for 1 (or would that just be a chair?) ... with a mid-afternoon family function in the East Bay, it'll be a brief [morning only] visit but looking forward to seeing everyone.

And I'll miss you all! I hope to make it down in late summer--not August though, maybe September.

Darcy, I look forward to seeing you whenever you come to town. One of these days (months? years?) I will make it up there!

The weather looks a bit better today. Not so much rain and light breezes. Getting 5 years worth of rain in one winter is getting old. See y'all later.

David, lets face it, this travel group is an unstoppable force of nature.

I had a good time ... and I had to stay until after 4:30 just to talk to most everyone I wanted to.
It's a great group of people, and thank goodness Panera is big enough and tolerant enough to handle all of us.
Force of nature indeed!

I'm thinking the Staybridge Suites - easily within walking distance just across the street from Panera. Start the informal meeting on Friday night and get a head start on Saturday's proceedings, or continue the Saturday meeting late into the night and do David's walkabout Sunday after a healthy breakfast at the hotel.

Or both nights ;-)

We can ('legally') get 8 of us in a 2-bedroom suite...so no naked strolling-around. It could work...

A little off topic, but I think I may have mentioned at the meeting that I might put up another 1980's era trip report, this time Italy and Spain 1984. I just posted part one and two.
