Sacramento Travel Group Meeting - Saturday May 15 @ 10 a.m.

If you love to talk about travel, are planning a trip, or if you want to share your experiences with others, please join us. Do your friends eyes glaze over or do they run the other way when you want to reminisce about your travels? That won't happen with us. Need help with planning a trip? We have a group of well traveled people who are happy to assist. Everyone is welcome at our meetings.

We always meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. This month it is on May 15th.

Location:
Panera Bread located at 916 Pleasant Grove Blvd., Roseville
This is off Hwy 65. Take the Pleasant Grove Blvd. exit and go west (for most of you that will be a left turn) and you will see Panera on the right. This will be our new location for the foreseeable future. They have a very large patio (according to the manager the largest in the U.S.) and they are very happy to accommodate us.

There are a limited number of small tables and chairs on their patio. We have been given permission to bring some tables for our use. I can bring one rectangular tables. If anyone else can bring one please let me know. How many we will need will depend on how many people we expect. Please bring a chair if you can. We should make our best attempt to space ourselves out and wear masks when we aren’t eating or drinking. I know we will show our appreciation to our new hosts by purchasing food and drinks from them. Please don’t bring your own.

I would appreciate if you can let me know if you are planning to come. It gives me an idea of how many people to expect. Look for the Rick Steves books on the table. If you have any concerns feel free to reach out to me. I believe that most, if not all, have been vaccinated.

I know this location is not as convenient for everyone, but under the circumstances we have to make due. When meeting indoors becomes feasible we can go back to our original Panera. As locals know, it is already getting hot here. I have concerns about outside meetings if we don’t have enough shade. We will bring a pop up canopy and last month we put our long portable table between two of Panera’s tables that had umbrellas. If this month’s meeting proves to be too hot and sunny, the rest of the summer will be worse. If anyone has any suggestions for a park that would provide plenty of shade and a bathroom I would be interested in considering other locations. Another option could be starting at 9:00 a.m. Let me know how you feel about that as well.

See everyone on the 15th!

On my calendar and look forward to seeing everyone post-vaccine.

Can bring 4 patio-style chairs (tying a string around finger now to remember).

We plan to be there and will bring a table and our own chairs. Since I’m a morning person I wouldn’t be opposed to meeting at 9 AM for the peak summer months if we still need to meet outdoors.

Phew, finally caught it just in time. I am ready to start meeting again. I have oodles of plans for 2022 and beyond. I think 9 am works for me! Let me know if that is what the plan is.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone. Right now the forecast is for a high of 90 degrees on meeting day. We will keep this month at our normal 10:00, but as we know it’s not getting any cooler. I’m especially concerned about July and August. We can have a discussion at the meeting about how people feel about starting earlier.

You know we love you all, but ... with my heat-sensitivity the idea of sitting outside in the Sacramento summer is a non-starter. Looking forward to meeting inside the air-conditioned Panera when that's available.

Lauri, I totally understand. I don’t know a work around to having to be outdoors in the heat other than starting earlier. The forecast for this Saturday is a high of 82, so that isn’t too bad since presumably the meeting will be over before it reaches the high. This will be a topic of discussion at the meeting. Indoors at Panera will likely be off limits for the foreseeable future. I met my brother at a different Panera for lunch last week and they weren’t allowing people to use the large table. Considering we use it and add at least two tables it’s a no go.

We will do the best we can to create shade on Saturday. If we can fit our pop up in my car, along with the table and chairs we are bringing that will help. Don’t forget hats and sunscreen.

I’m sorry you can’t make it. Maybe next month.

Stay tuned for the monthly announcements. It’s possible the location can change. With the new mandates it could be possible that we can go back to our old Panera and meet indoors. I’m not sure how I feel about that. We can discuss future options tomorrow at the meeting. The summer heat will be problematic as it warms up (okay, let’s just be honest that summer is just hot) so flexibility is key. The good news is that they are saying now that tomorrow’s high will be 79 degrees.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone!

Thanks for the temperature update. Bringing a jacket tomorrow just in case. We worked outdoors yesterday in the sun and 90° temperatures (brutal) for 7 hours so that kind of a drop in temperature will be welcome but an adjustment 😄

Hope everyone has a good meeting. I'll pass this time as I've been busy with work and need a day with nothing going on to relax and take it easy. And Mona, thats exciting to hear about your tickets to Germany.

Another fun meeting today, and thankfully the weather has cooled down a bit. When it gets closer to the June meeting we will decide whether to start at our usual time of 10:00, or possibly begin earlier if the weather is expected to be hot (and when isn’t it hot in June?). We are hoping that our original Panera may be open to us having our meeting indoors in July. We just have to take this month by month. Be sure to check each month to see what is currently happening. Plans are subject to change.
