Sacramento Travel Group Meeting - Saturday, June 16th

It's that time again to meet with fellow travelers to talk about --- travel!

As always, we meet the 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m.

Location - Panera Bread, 3571 North Freeway Blvd, Sacramento. This is off I-80, using the Truxel Rd. exit.

Everyone who wants to discuss their upcoming trips, reminisce about past trips, or just hang out and talk about travel is welcome.

Who's planning to be there? Everyone is welcome, but it's good to let us know. It gives us an idea of how many people we need to have seating for.

If it's your first time, look for the Rick Steves books on the table.

We're off to the mountains that day for family camp with my out-of-state daughter -- but we will see everyone in July.

General report on our May trip: French train strike caused a lot of anxiety in advance, no actual difficulties; great food (some from restaurants, some from Monoprix); good accommodations except for one mistake in Paris; memorable trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower (merci, Herbster !!) Excellent flight home on Swiss, with a long stopover in Zurich where we took advantage of Priority Pass to visit an upscale lounge ... and ran into Warren.

Laurie, good to hear your trip went well. I look forward to hearing about it in July. Amazing that you ran into Warren at the Zurich airport! It's so strange to run into people you know so far away from home. In 2010 on our first day in Italy we decided to walk around before our walking tour started, and made our way to Termini on the metro. As I was stepping off the train a man grabbed my arm from behind me. I had read all about pickpockets and was on alert. Jim was ready to haul off and hit the guy, until he said my name. This all happened quickly. I turned around and it was a guy I had worked with until I relocated a few years before. His office was directly across from mine and we used to chat about travel all the time. He also lived in my neighborhood for 24 years. I never once ran into him there. It's a small world.

I’ve run into several people in Paris that I know here at home but never run into them here... how does that happen?!

It was great fun to see Ed and Lauri at the ZRH airport. Having so many friends who live, work, and travel overseas, I randomly run into people on almost every trip. I missed one friend in Malta by a day and on my last night I found out that another friend had recently moved there, but we were not able to meet up. I am off to Tennessee for a week and will miss the June meeting.

Warren, you are always off to somewhere!

Speaking of being off to somewhere, I will be missing the meeting this month. In 2 days I'm off to Germany and Paris. I hate to miss the meeting, but Europe calls and I must answer. On the 16th I will be having a meeting in Paris. Other known attendees are Susan from San Francisco, Nigel and his wife from England, and Brad from Virginia. I may be able to FaceTime into your meeting.

I hope someone can get there early to set up. David?

Traveling that weekend. Unlike all the other posts, mine unfortunately is for work. :(

Look forward to hearing about everyone's trips at the July gathering!

Wow! Folks are doing what we’re destined to do: traveling!
We may not even need a card table, David. Just a bar stool...

Crikey! It'll be David, Kitty, I believe Larry and Kevin (?), and me.

Of course, there have been a couple of times we didn't expect many people, but instead had to keep adding tables to accommodate everyone who DID show up!

Perhaps we'll just get a cozy booth ;-)

Have a great time at the 'Paris Panera', Y'all!

We dropped in at the St. Louis Bread Company, AKA Panera, yesterday. Does that count for a satellite meeting at the "mother" store?

I hope you have a good meeting. If I can coordinate the timing I will FaceTime someone to join in for a bit.

We'll start out at our usual large table in the middle of the dining area...but may end up sitting on David's tailgate ;-)

I'm looking forward to seeing any and all who can make it tomorrow!

I will be there tomorrow. Wishing I was in Europe, but it is not in the budget or the time card this year. I would love a week in Paris about now.

Kevin, I feel your pain. If it makes you feel any better at all I am willing to spend that week (plus more time) in Paris for you. I’ll arrive tomorrow, just for you.

You may have a surprise visitor to your meeting tomorrow.

Our big east coast trip is next week, but I won't be able to come to tomorrow as my schedule is getting busy. See everyone next month.
