Sacramento Travel Group Meeting - Saturday Jan.19th @ 10am

It's that time again to meet with fellow travelers to talk about --- travel!

As always, we meet the 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m.

Location - Panera Bread, 3571 North Freeway Blvd, Sacramento. This is off I-80, using the Truxel Rd. exit.

Everyone who wants to discuss their upcoming trips, reminisce about past trips, or just hang out and talk about travel is welcome.

Who's planning to be there? Everyone is welcome, but it's good to let us know. It gives us an idea of how many people we need to have seating for.

If it's your first time, look for the Rick Steves books on the table.

We plan to be there ... hoping it will be between rainstorms/blizzards.

We hope to be there. If anyone has a Rick Steves Rome book from the past decade could you bring it? We are looking for a minimal menu restaurant in the NW Vatican neighborhood we went to in 2005 that was a RS recommendation. We got the go ahead for a trip to Italy and Paris this summer.

Matt, we hope to see you next month. I’m in San Diego with my daughter right now. Thank you so much for recommending that we go to El Agave in Old Town. We went yesterday and it was very good. I ran into someone I knew on our flight down here and he recommended Puesto at Seaport Village. We went there our first night and it was delicious.

Mona, will you be doing a home exchange during this trip?

Andrea no not on this trip. We have an exchange scheduled in Germany, mid September. This July trip with the granddaughters was a recent bonus that we love.

Two trips, always a good thing. Where is your German exchange? I'm looking forward to when we are able to start doing exchanges.

Andrea were going back to the Harz region. We couldn’t get enough of it in our one month exchange, seven years ago. We still have a lot of places and towns left unexplored.

Mona, that sounds exciting.

Susan & Monte, I'm sorry to hear that. My thoughts are with you.

FYI. I posted this information today under Transportation where it might not get seen if you are only monitoring certain boards:

——-We found and immediately booked a round trip flight from SFO to MUC today for $395 per person round trip. Hoping that if anyone else is going to Germany this fall from the Bay Area you can take a look at this fleeting fare. Our dates are September 16-October 8.
EDIT: this is with DELTA connecting in Amsterdam going over and Dallas coming back with decent connection times.

I was hoping to come this month but I’m not able to, unfortunately.
I’ll be there either in February or March. (Maybe both...)
Have fun!

SharYn, I'm sorry you can't make it, but any month you can come will be great. I'm hoping we can make it to the Bay Area meeting next month. We are supposed to get together with family in the East Bay that day, so it would be nice if we can fit in the meeting first. Everything is dependent on Riley. The poor old boy can't walk on his own, but after 2 weeks of rest he is improving. Fingers crossed it gets better. In the meantime someone always has to be with him. Jim volunteered to stay home today.

Can I come next month? And does anyone have the original back door carryon I could look at?

Of course you can attend. It will be nice to see you again. I would suggest you post on next months meeting thread (I'll post it around February 6th) and ask if anyone has what you're looking for. I have a convertible carry on. I believe it is the same as the original back door bag, but mine can expand.

Thank you. I have the convertible carryon but it's too big. I'm looking for something smaller. :)

Stay-ce, they are the same size - 21"x14"x9"

The only difference is that the convertible bag can expand and weighs 3 lbs and the backdoor bag does not expand and weighs 2 lbs.

Perhaps the Appenzell Day Bag would be sufficient for your needs. It measures 18"x13"x6 1/2" and weighs 1 1/2 lbs. It is currently on sale for $39.99.
