Sacramento Travel Group Meeting - Saturday April 18 @ 10:00 a.m.

It's that time again to meet with fellow travelers to talk about --- travel!!

As always, we meet the 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m.

Location-
Panera Bread 3571 North Freeway Blvd. Sacramento. This is off I-80, using the Truxel Rd. exit.

Everyone who wants to discuss their upcoming trips, reminisce about past trips, or just hang out and talk about travel is welcome.

Who's planning to be there? Everyone is welcome, but it's a good idea to let us know. It gives us an idea of how many people we need to have seating for.

Just giving you guys a tap to the top. You don't have nearly the replies you usually have. Has everyone gone on an RS tour and left Eileen at home?

Hmm ... how about if I promise to bring brownies ?? (non-medicinal, of course!)

I've spent the last 2 months buying a house and selling a house. We are officially out of our old house, but our new house won't be ready until late June. In other words, I'm homeless. Too bad I can't spend the next two months in Europe. Our temporary digs have spotty wifi, so between being so busy before and now not very well connected, I haven't been online much.

Have fun at the ranch Kat. See you next month. Laura, if you must bring brownies I won't tell you no. I didn't get any the other time. :-)

Thanks for giving us a bump Pam!

See you all Saturday!!

So...I hate to alarm anyone, but does it sound as if since Andrea and Jim are currently homeless they will be the door prize for attendance and someone will have to take them home?

I was actually thinking of a road trip to Idaho for the Saturday meeting. I can be someone's door prize there. ;-) Poor Jim has to work, so he won't make it. Actually I just had a great idea, I can spend the next 2 months in Europe. I'll just have to go without him. I'm sure he won't mind.

LOL, you would be welcome in N. Idaho. Pack your woolies because even though we have had no snow this winter it snowed today! Go Figure!

Andrea, you can come work for me for 2 months. Give you something to do at least.

No, no, I want Andrea up here! I can find all sorts of work for her here. We have blackberry bushes that need to be pulled! Actually, everyone is welcome to come pull blackberry bushes.

And David told me he won't be there, so it looks like a small group. And homeless.....no, I know where you are staying, it is a beautiful home! Ok, maybe not as big as your future new home, but it is really nice!

Ms. Jo, I wish there was some way to take you up on your offer. I would love to work for you AND I'd love to spend a couple of months in Frankfurt. Sorry Darcy, Ms. Jo's offer definitely sounds better than yours! What Susan neglected to mention about my temporary home is that it's on wheels. It's been fine so far, though the heater seems to not be working. It's cold this morning. The dog and I are snuggled under a couple of blankets waiting for Jim to get home from work. There are worse ways to spend a morning. At least it's not my car!!

Fantastic Nigel! Just like Motel 6!!

You guys are the best!! Maybe I can make the rounds. I can start in England, where Nigel and Carol would welcome me with lights, then on to Frankfurt where I can walk around with Ms. Jo (who gives a wonderful walking tour for anyone interested), then stop in to visit relatives in Cologne and Hannover. I can finish up in Idaho, where hopefully Darcy's blackberry problem will have already been resolved. Did I miss anything? ;-)

I'm Regina and new to the forum. I went to the gathering in Marin last Saturday and and the advice of folks there will be joining you in Sacramento. Very much looking forward to meeting all of you.

Regina, we look forward to meeting you.

Susan, you are so right. I neglected to mention your very generous offer. I am lucky to have so many nice people in my life.

David, maybe we'll see you and maybe we won't!! It won't be a late day for me. Jim's working and I'll have to get back to let the dog out. It's hard getting used to not having a doggy door.

"You don't have nearly the replies you usually have. Has everyone gone on an RS tour and left Eileen at home?"

Noooooooo!!! Better not have! Pam, bite your tongue!

Sharyn, thanks for the dual language 'you all/y'all' LOL! See y'all Sat!

Matt, we'll see you in May!

Mike, we'll see you tomorrow!

David...? We hope to see you tomorrow; a few of us (myself included) have to leave 'early' tomorrow, like around 2:00. Y'all will have to carry on without us. It will be much quieter :-)

Regina starburst, I remember you from Pam's fabulous 21-day Best of Europe Tour review. I look forward to meeting you!

Road Work on I-80!

For those driving from the west (San Francisco, Davis, etc.), be aware that eastbound I-80 will be reduced to one (slow & pokey) lane between West Sacramento (@ Hwy 50) and I-5. It you normally take this route, should instead continue on to I-5 north and take the eastbound I-80 exit from there. Stay in the far right lane, because you will then take the very first exit onto Truxel.

Hopefully this link will stay up through the next 24 hours! If not, just Google 'I-80 Across the Top Project' for info. Here's a map from that website showing alternate routes.

Be safe!

Thanks for the traffic warning, Eileen!
And yes, the bilingual language was a shout-out to you especially!
Looking forward to seeing y'all (I did it again!) tomorrow.

Please allow me to make a few suggestions with respect to the road work and traffic for those of you coming from the west.

As Eileen stated, I-80 will be reduced to one lane of traffic from the Sacramento River to I-5. This means the back up will start as far back as the Causeway over the Yolo By-Pass. The traffic jam is likely to be several miles and could take an hour. The best way to avoid this, along with the frustration of sitting stopped on the freeway, is as follows:

As you approach Davis from the West, follow the signs for California State Highway 113 North to Woodland. Drive 11 miles and take the Main Street Exit #37. The exit ramp is extremely long.

At the end of the ramp, turn right onto Main Street. Drive one block, going straight through the traffic light, and make an immediate right onto I-5 South.

Drive 13 miles and take the Arena Blvd. Exit #524. Turn left at the end of the ramp onto Arena Blvd. Drive 1 3/4 miles on Arena Blvd. to Gateway Park Blvd and turn right (there will be a huge Coca-Cola cup on your right at the corner.) Go about 1/2 mile and make the left on North Freeway Blvd and you will be at the Panera.

This is about 9 miles longer, but you will be tied up in traffic much longer than the extra 10 minutes if you take I-80.

I hope this helps,
Kevin

I'm happy you made it Susan! I wish I didn't have to leave so early. I hope to see you at the Bay Area meeting next month.
