Sacramento Area Travel Group Meeting - Saturday, April 17 @ 10:00

I am excited to announce that we will resume in person meetings beginning this month. See below for our new location.

If you love to talk about travel, are planning a trip, or if you want to share your experiences with others, please join us. Do your friends eyes glaze over or do they run the other way when you want to reminisce about your travels? That won't happen with us. Need help with planning a trip? We have a group of well traveled people who are happy to assist. Everyone is welcome at our meetings.

We always meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m.
This month it is on April 17th.

New location:
Panera Bread located at 916 Pleasant Grove Blvd., Roseville

This is off Hwy 65. Take the Pleasant Grove Blvd. exit and go west (for most of you that will be a left turn) and you will see Panera on the right. This will be our new location for the foreseeable future. They have a very large patio (according to the manager the largest in the U.S.) and they are very happy to accommodate us.

There are a limited number of small tables and chairs on their patio. We have been given permission to bring some tables for our use. It was suggested we set up close to the side of the T-Mobile store. I can bring one or possibly two rectangular tables. If anyone else can bring one please let me know. How many we will need will depend on how many people we expect. Please bring a chair if you can. We should make our best attempt to space ourselves out and wear masks when we aren’t eating or drinking. I know we will show our appreciation to our new hosts by purchasing food and drinks from them. Please don’t bring your own.

I would appreciate if you can let me know if you are planning to come. It gives me an idea of how many people to expect. Look for the Rick Steves books on the table. If you have any concerns feel free to reach out to me. I believe that most, if not all, have been vaccinated.

I know this location is not as convenient for everyone, but under the circumstances we have to make due. When meeting indoors becomes feasible we can go back to our original Panera.

One day I'll make it over the pass from little ol' Reno! In the meantime, have fun! And cheers for putting this together!

You should definitely come. This location is a bit closer to Reno than the other Panera.

Great job scouting out the biggest Panera patio in the US 😀. We hope to be there on the 17th and can bring our own chairs, a table to share and some disinfectant wipes.

Mona, I would like to take credit for intentionally looking for the largest patio, but I obviously didn’t know until he told me. The patio is between Panera & T-Mobile. It’s the T-Mobile we always go to, since relatively speaking it’s not very far from our house. I had never paid attention to the patio before, but when we were in there doing some phone business in November I took notice. We stopped by there a couple of Sundays ago to see how loud the traffic would be. It wasn’t too bad. The manager couldn’t have been nicer when I called and seemed genuinely pleased that we would like to have our meetings there. Thanks for the offer of the table.

We will bring hand sanitizer to set out on the tables.

Card-table chairs or camping chairs with built-in beverage holders ??

Card table type chairs would probably be more comfortable for use at the table, but whatever people have will work.

I will miss going to your meetings. It has been a joy being able to join in each month and it has made the past year a bit more fun. Thanks for all the hard work you put into these zoom meetings, Andrea.

Thanks Ms. Jo & Nigel. I have enjoyed very much having you both as part of our local group. I’m sure I’ll be seeing you both soon enough. Especially Ms. Jo. As a patron of her Frankfurt on Foot group I’m regularly treated to tours in various parts of Frankfurt, a very interesting city. I encourage everyone to check it out. I am hoping to be in Frankfurt next March and England in September 2022. 🤞🏼 I plan/hope to see you both then.

Hello Sac Area Group, I haven't been to join you all in years when Elaine first brought me. I can't make this time but like the Roseville location as it is much closer to me. Hope you all have a great time! See you some time in the future.

Andrea, this is truly amazing. On Tuesday we dropped by the Panera on Pleasant Grove for Marci to pick up a croissant (she had a birthday certificate), and I mentioned that I thought that years ago I think the Sacramento area travel group used to meet there (not sure if thats correct but I thought so). Anyway, I then said that if we ever met there again I'd have no excuse not to come to a travel group meeting there as its our home area. And sure enough, the very day we were talking about this you posted the new meeting location. so yes, I'll be there.

Hi Kaye, I hope you can join us one of these days.

Rob, I’m happy to hear you will be at the meeting. You are almost right about our first 2 meetings at Panera in Roseville. It wasn’t this location though, it was the one on Douglas. Once we can get back to indoor meetings we will go back to the Panera in North Natomas. Roseville is more convenient for some of us, including myself, but the other Panera is more central. We can enjoy being closer to home as long as we can.

I was asked about something, so I wanted to announce it publicly. When we have in person meetings we will not be Zooming it simultaneously. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing people in the flesh.

I’ve mostly heard from some people privately, but I wanted to mention a couple of things about the meeting on Saturday. The forecast is for a high of 84 degrees and sunny. Of course it won’t be that warm at 10:00 a.m., but everyone should be prepared for the sun. We will try to grab an umbrella or two, but I don’t want to take all of their outdoor furnishings and not leave tables/chairs/umbrellas for other customers. We will bring a table and Mona said they have one. Can anyone else bring a table? Don’t forget to bring a chair. People can stay as long as they would like, but we need to leave by 1:00. We will have to take our table with us.

I’m looking forward to seeing people in the flesh!

Sorry, we will have to miss this month's meeting due to a family conflict. Next month in Roseville! (Trying to wangle an invitation to visit Sparks on the third Saturdays ... )
Have a great face-to-face time!!!

Lauri, I’m sorry to hear that you make it tomorrow. Hopefully next month...

It was so nice to see everyone who showed up today. There were only 9 of us, but next month we should have more. The gigantic Panera patio worked out well, but having enough shade may be a problem with a bigger group. The warm and sunny weather was nice, but it’s going to be hotter as the months go on. We will have to work on a solution. It was exciting to hear about the trips people are planning. It gives me hope that we will be traveling again one of these days. See y’all next month.
