Sacramento Travel Group Meeting - Saturday 3/18

It's that time again to meet with fellow travelers to talk about --- travel!!

As always, we meet the 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m.

Location - Panera Bread, 3571 North Freeway Blvd, Sacramento. This is off I-80, using the Truxel Rd. exit.

Everyone who wants to discuss their upcoming trips, reminisce about past trips, or just hang out and talk about travel is welcome.

Who's planning to be there? Everyone is welcome, but it's good to let us know. It gives us an idea of how many people we need to have seating for.

Andrea, to echo you on our thread, wish I could be there! Why is Sac so far away? 😂

Question for you all: Does anyone own the RS Ravenna bag or the RS Rolling Carry On? I'm planning to buy one of the two and would appreciate detailed feedback if any of you have either one. Thanks!

Susan, I have the RS Rolling Carry On. Eileen has a RS store in her house, so I wouldn't be surprised if she owns the Ravenna bag. Check with her. If she does, maybe she can bring it to our meeting. I can meet up with you some time soon so you can check the bag(s) out.

We will be there! Yep, ask Eileen, and she has everything in her purse, too. Last month ( in the dead of winter) she had a portable fan in her purse! She should get on some game show and win big money!

Planning to be there, look forward to seeing everyone.

We are planning to come on the 18th. We have been unpacking at Woodland like crazy this week and think we will be ready for a break!

We have an upcoming, very unplanned, trip to Ireland in June--we've only been to Dublin before. We are also seeking Beyond Europe travel information on things to do within 100 miles of Sacramento and perhaps a recommendation of a local tour guide for Sacramento as we have never been more than 100' from the freeway before 😉!

Really looking forward to seeing and meeting you all on the 18th.

Mona, welcome to the 'hood! Woodland is very close to where we meet. I'd be happy to share ideas for things to do in the area, as I'm sure the others would too. Ireland...how exciting! I loved Ireland and hope to go back some day. I look forward to seeing you on the 18th!!

Do any of you know if, and when, RS bags go on sale?

Susan, the best thing to do is look every week on the website because different bags are on sale at different times. The articles on sale change every Monday.
I know there is a BIG sale in December and there might be another one in June, but I don't remember the details.
(Or you could just steal some from Eileen!)

Alexis, you are always welcome!

Mona - how cool to meet you! Welcome to N CA. And welcome to our madness on the 18th... ;-)

Susan W., yes, Monte Hall would be paying me some big bucks! While in Seoul with my mother, she was presented with a bowl of soup...and chopsticks. Guess who whipped out a spoon from her backpack? Surely she told you that story; she told everybody else :-) I'd make a very good Boy Scout - "Be Prepared".

Susan R., seems like there have been RS Memorial Day sales in years past...but as SharYn said he does have 2+ items on sale every week. Except for a particular category of Accessories or other small items, usually the sale is for a particular item (Rolling Backpack, binoculars, France 2017 guidebook), not all carry-on bags, guidebooks, etc. As I've already replied to you, I have the Ravenna Daybag (roughly between the Civita and Appenzell, sizewise), but not the wheeled bag. I really should set up a rental service...

See y'all Saturday!

Thanks Sharyn, good advice

Hey Eileen, I have a great idea, how about you buy the RS 20/21" Rolling Carry On and I borrow it from you! I'll pay what Sharyn paid you 😂😂😂

On a side note, you can be sure anything and everything will go on sale eventually, except the RCO! 😆

Sure, Susan...Well, since I have the 20" (Rolling Backpack), 21", and the 22" Rolling bags, I'll be happy to rent them to you. Unfortunately, I've felt it necessary to greatly raise the rental rates for 2017 ;-)

After a couple of successful rental contracts, I could afford to buy - and rent out - the Ravenna Rolling Bag. Kind of a 'help me to help you' thing :-)

Eileen, I'm more than happy to pay double what Sharyn paid! 😱
And I've started a Go Fund Me page for the Ravenna bag for you... 💰

You sly fox ;-)

But Woo-Hoo on the GoFundMe page! I'll start dreaming of my new Ravenna bag; I'm thinking Plum...

I will be there with my new copy of the latest edition of the RS France 2017. After our last meeting I bought my tickets. Now I need to plan my time. I was hoping Susan from Marin would be able to come so I could garner her expertise on a few places, i.e. Chateau de Vaux le Vicomte and Fountainebleau, among other places. It appears I have Tuesday, 24 July thru Sunday, 30 July to do France as I wish! Please bring your ideas, suggestions, and opinions, on Saturday. It is always an experience, so I figure you will bring that without asking.

Eileen, Plum will look well on you... 😈

Kevin, I just this evening saw your PM to me! I'll send you a PM in a minute.

I really wish I could come to your meeting but I have 16 rose bushes being delivered on Friday and they have to be planted on Saturday. I'd much rather be with you guys, I hate gardening/yard work... : (

Kevin - I've also spent a little time in Paris. I think I'm up to 5 weeks. Maybe I can help. ;-)

Susan - if you lived closer I would help you plant your rose bushes. I enjoy working in the yard.

I'd love it if we lived closer Andrea!

Sharyn that bag you are looking for is on sale right now, 20% off, https://store.ricksteves.com/shop/travel-bags
Sorry I can't get the Hyperlink to work.

Andrea, I know you and others know Paris. I wanted to talk to Susan about a couple of places she had posted about that I found in the archives of the forum. I was in no way disregarding the experience our regulars can share with me.

Any of you that can bring a good France map to show me things on, that would be greatly appreciated.

Kevin

Kevin - you know I was just giving you a hard time. I'll bring all my France stuff, including a road atlas and maps. I've got a guidebook for Normandy too. Shhh...don't tell Rick I buy other guidebooks too.

See everyone Saturday. Jim should be there too, although we do have a very busy St. Patrick's Day planned. There's no telling how he will be feeling in the morning. 🍻☘️

Thanks, Kevin.
I have the 20 inch roller and the Eurobag already so I am all set.
And for what it's worth, I bought the Eurobag with the $100 credit and the roller on sale last Fall.
It pays to plan far enough ahead to take advantage of sales.
I'll look forward to hearing about your plans in France. (This is in conjunction with the wedding in Austria?)
I'm hoping to make the April meeting.

Yes, this is all a part of the trip to Austria for my son's wedding.
Unfortunately, I will not be at the April meeting because I have to be out of the country in Texas for a foreign wedding the day before Easter.
(No I am not geographically challenged, just giving recognition to the true cultural differences that exist between California and foreign places such as Texas as opposed to familiar places such as the E.U.)

Darn it Kevin!! Was hoping to see you in April... : (
Do you have your Passport and Visa in order for Texas? I hope they let you come back.

I'll be attending today, but late, as I'm having a tough time getting going today. Also, with Kevins trip to Texas, its not so much that Texas might be a different country, but if the California secession movement has its way, that we would be the different country.

Happily awaiting the Eileen Texas retort...
A bit late, but I'll be seen in green.☘️🇮🇪
