Sacramento Travel Group Meeting - October 21@ 10:00 a.m.

It's that time again to meet with fellow travelers to talk about --- travel!

As always, we meet the 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m.

Location - Panera Bread, 3571 North Freeway Blvd, Sacramento. This is off I-80, using the Truxel Rd. exit.

Everyone who wants to discuss their upcoming trips, reminisce about past trips, or just hang out and talk about travel is welcome.

Who's planning to be there? Everyone is welcome, but it's good to let us know. It gives us an idea of how many people we need to have seating for.

It's on the calendar -- looking forward to seeing all the people who were out traveling last month, in addition to the lively group that was at Panera in September.

It is lovely that Ms Jo will be there. Say hi from me, pls.

I wanted to ask the Sacto group for the latest on the fires. I've heard of Santa Rosa having trouble? That's pretty close, and pretty close to the Bay area too. How are folks managing around you?

My wife said she had heard of fires on the Peninsula? Surely not?

I'm sorry you all are having such stress....

Hi Nigel! A state of emergency has been declared. The situation in Santa Rosa is horrific. Entire neighborhoods have burned down. The Napa and Sonoma valleys are on fire. The fires have spread to Solano County now. Homes and businesses including wineries have been destroyed. Hundreds of people have been reported missing. At this point no one knows if they have perished in the fires or if they just can't find a way to communicate. Cell towers have been destroyed. For us in the Sacramento Valley, there are also terrible fires to the north and east. Because we are surrounded by fires the air quality is really bad. Yesterday morning when I woke up the smoke was thick in the air. Today isn't bad...so far. The winds keep shifting, which it makes it next to impossible to get the fires contained. The fires started on Sunday night and there's no end in sight to the high winds that push the flames so quickly. My heart aches for all those affected in any way by these devastating fires.

Not sure if we will make it this month. We are trying to get the house painted before the rains come (well, Monte is, not me!) And Paige is suppose to leave next Sunday for Santa Rosa to go into a two week training to receive a service dog, so I will be helping her get ready. But, we'll see if that even happens with the fires. They did evacuate over 100 dogs on Tuesday.

We sure miss seeing everyone and we have a lot of trips we need to hear about.

Nigel- if you want to see the scope of all the CA fires check out this website. The black symbols show fires controlled and the red are burning. It is really unbelievable!! See CA as a whole on the map and you'll see hundreds of fires.

Great! I didn't know Monte painted houses ;-) I'll have to talk to him...

I'll be there! I know that just made everyone's day.

I will be there on Saturday. Unfortunately the brother in laws 4th or 5th wedding isn't until 4:00. No it is not Mickey Rooney. Monte, if you need some help I can handle a spray can pretty well. My writing is only in English so if you want anything bilingual like German for those stationed there with the Army, you will have to write it out first. I applaud you and Susan for using your house as an outlet for urban self-expression. Graffiti as folk art in the suburbs is a cool idea. Happy painting, rattle, rattle, spray, spray.

Oh, fun, Kevin; will this be causal dress? I'll bring a change of clothing to Panera just in case...

Ummm, I didn't realize that Monte is a graphic 'artist'; I'm going to have to pass on having him paint our house.

I might try to come just for a short time. I'll have to see how the stress level is in my house...that will be the determining factor! ( Fingers crossed 😊)

I've got a bit of a cold this morning so I'm staying home and not giving it to all of you ...
I'm looking forward to seeing you all in November and hearing about your recent trips and sharing my own upcoming plans.
Have a fun meeting!

Won't be there today, traveling to Dallas this weekend. See everybody in November (right before the turkeys start acting nervous!).
