Oregon travel group meeting

I see from past posts that there have been prior attempts to get a travel group going. Any interest now?

The weather, hopefully, is improving (well, snow again today), and football season is over, so travel up and down I-5 might be better. A location in Salem - someone in the past suggested Panera north of Salem (Kaiser), or Wilsonville might work, too.

Thoughts? Anyone out there interested? Maybe something in mid-March or early April before we all go to far off lands?

Depending on date and time I would be interested. I've attended one in the past and it was good. The one I attended was in Portland so included a number of people from Vancouver, WA. I think Wilsonville would be about as far south as you'd want to go to give Vancouverites a chance as well as Salemites and any hearty souls from Eugene or points south. Given the horrendous traffic in Portland on weekdays, I would think an afternoon meeting on the weekend would work pretty well.

We in the SF Bay Area and Sacramento groups occasionally pm frequent or recent posters on the Forum to personally invite them to our meetings. You might want to try that to increase your attendance.
And good luck ... I love the meetings that I attend and have made some new good friends in the last few years.

I'm up for it, I'd certainly be willing to drive a bit once a month to get together and there seems to be more people from this area on the forum than in the past. I think Saturday (late am or early pm) is best to get the people who work full-time and to leave Sunday free for family stuff. I know Wilsonville is better for North Portland and Vancouver people but a bit of a stretch for anyone south of where I live in Corvallis. That's a long way for any Eugenians, but not necessarily out of the question.

I like the idea that some groups have of always planning on the same time/date each month (ie: 3rd Sat of the mnth at 10:00am). If someone comes, then someone comes, if not oh well. That seems to work better than trying to arrange different dates/times each month or meeting only occasionally. I think that's why the old Portland group died, people planned too hard and wanted to serve food so they wanted RSVPs, I think it was just a bit too structured for many people.

I hope we can get something going again starting in March.

Thanks SharYn for the suggestion. And Nancy, I think you are right that a consistent date/time works best. Any other ideas?

We've been to a couple meetings in the Portland area and would be interested in having a regular meeting time. It's always fun to chat with fellow travelers and we found the groups to be quite interesting. In both cases, they disbanded while we were traveling, so I don't know what happened.

I live near Beaverton and would be interested in meeting up. I don't post much...but I've benefited greatly in two trips to Italy by reading the Forum.

May I suggest the Panera at 6110 Keizer Station Blvd NE in Keizer? It's right off I-5 and about half-way between Corvallis and Portland. How about March 18 at 11:00am? I suggest that time so the meeting does not take up too much of the day, it might be after a breakfast rush and before a lunch rush.

I'll also reach out to traveling friends of mine in this area, including a couple I met on a Italy My Way tour last fall.

Any takers?

Time wise, IMHO, Salem/Keizer is a long haul for most Portland or Vancouver travelers. I say that because of traffic. While it is farther to travel to go to Wilsonville or Tigard from Eugene than Vancouver there is the problem of getting through Portland traffic (even on weekends.) I think the travel time might be similar if people met in Wilsonville or Tigard if they were coming from Vancouver or Eugene. I also suspect that the Portland/Vancouver area has a higher concentration of travelers as that is where most of the population lives. Just my 2 cents.

just trying to accommodate those coming from the south. In my view, if I can stand a 17 hour flight to Europe, I can drive an extra 20 or 30 minutes to meet fellow travelers.

Feeback? Alternate date/clock-time/location?

The 18th at 11:00 works. I'm ok with Keizer Station but Woodburn might be a little better for those coming from the north. I'd also be ok with Wilsonville myself, but that gets to be a bit far if anyone is coming from as far south as the Eugene area.

Hope we can get some response from anyone down south.

How about the Panera Bread, 3000 Sprague Lane, Woodburn OR Saturday March 18th at 11:00am?

Just bumping this up to see if there is any more interest in a March meeting.

I reached out late yesterday and a few moments ago to four folks who'd posted on the same topic last fall asking that they look for this thread if they are still interested.

I'm up for Woodburn on the 18th, Panera Bread at the address above..11am. Where two or more are gathered in the name of travel...um, that's a good thing. (Gosh, I hope I did not just speak blasphemously unto Martha Stewart or God.)

Let's just Do It! (There...a trifecta...Phil Knight too!)

Hi, my location shows as Portland, but I'mdown here in Salem. I can't meet at the end of March as I'm taking our youngest college looking. I could come most of April including early April.

Hi, I'm in Beaverton and Sat March 18th at 11:00 works. I'll see if my RS travel buddy can come also. Thanks Becky for the heads up. And thanks to all for organizing this.

Hi all. Would love to participate. March 18 will not work for me, but will try hard for the next one! I am now in Lincoln City and just realized I have not updated my profile to reflect that. Corvallis or Salem or Wilsonville work for me.

I tried once to get a meeting in the beaver state, but failed! I'm interested in 3/18 and will try to be there. Hello crappy outlet stores!

Right now I'm scheduled to work on the 18th, but I'm going to see if I can reschedule. Would really like to meet in Woodburn on the 18th. I also would like to make that a regular date and time going forward even if it's only a few of us. Third Saturday of the month.

Cheers!

We'd be interested in meeting depending on location. (Currently planning summer trip to Scandinavia.) One time we met at Panera Bread in Jantzen Beach which worked for those of us from SW Washington. There were several people from our area but that might not be the case for interested parties now.
