International (Virtual) Travel Meeting - Sunday Sept. 6th @ 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time

Hello fellow travelers,

It’s time for another International Travel Meeting. If you enjoy talking about travel and interacting with others that share the same passion then this is the place for you. I was thinking about those of you that don't have local groups to meet with when I started this, though all are welcome.

There will be a limit to the number of participants. It has been determined that more than 25 is too many. You must reply to this thread to be invited. The first 24 people to respond will be admitted to the meeting. I can send more invites in case any of the those 24 people don't log in. We will have a 10 minute grace period starting at 9:30 a.m. After that any others still in the 'waiting room' can be admitted, up to 24 people. Last month everyone in the waiting room was admitted because some of the first 24 people didn’t log in.

Each month there will be a couple of topics to discuss. More suggestions are welcome for future months. Of course we will discuss other things as well.

Topics -

  • How do you determine the length of your trip? How long is too long?

  • Do you do anything differently for trips that last longer than 2-3 weeks?

  • How do you avoid over planning?

Please let me know in a reply to this post or with a PM if you are interested. I will email the Zoom meeting link. If you participated previously I already have your email address. If you didn't you will need to send it in a PM.

I am out of town, so the invites won’t go out until August 31. I will send them in the order that I received each request.

See you on September 6th!!

This post was edited to change the start time to 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time.

Sign us up!! Ed and I have yet to do a trip together that was "too long" -- although I did once find myself wishing for bagels and lox at about week 9 on a trip with a different travel partner.

No trip we have taken has ever been too long. We usually travel internationally for a month but spent six weeks one time. Could have stayed longer!
Planning? Flights, rental cars and tickets for the big museums in cities is all we book ahead as well as a few dinners in the city we fly into.. We check days open for places we want to visit and plan around them as we go. We have. ideas of places we want to explore, nothing more. No over planning ever. Go with the flow. We change the itinerary occasionally as we travel. We have never had a problem seeing everything we hoped to see or do.

Hi Andrea --
I'd like to "come."
Please put me on the waiting list as I know priority should go to those without local meetings.
Thanks!

Hi SharYn, I’ve now realized that there are other people who participate in multiple meetings so it’s just going to be that the first 24 to respond will be admitted. I don’t know about the people I don’t know, and people I know, like you, shouldn’t be treated differently. Watch for your invite.

I’m sorry you can’t make it, Mona. I’m hoping that if the weather and air quality allows for it we may be able to do an outdoor in person meeting this month. 🤞🏼

This was another enjoyable meeting - thanks for hosting, Andrea.
The social opportunity is great, but on top of that I do benefit from hearing other travelers' perspectives on topics we all worry over
thanks again!

Thanks to all who attended. It’s always interesting to hear from fellow travelers about what they like and don’t like, etc. It’s also dangerous for me. I thought I had a solid plan for next fall, assuming we can resume traveling that is. I’ve always traveled independently and have never done any kind of tour other than local walking tours, but I had begun thinking about the RS Eastern Europe tour. Today our discussion about tours vs. independent travel was informative. Barbara mentioned doing Eastern Europe independently instead. We already have a long (9-10 week) trip planned, and a week in Budapest is part of the plan. There is no way to replicate an organized tour in the same time period, but I did start thinking about adding Krakow to the mix. I guess I have plenty of time before mid to late August when our trip would begin to figure this out.

See everyone next month!

Is there homework to do for the October meeting in case we are able to participate? Any topics?

Good morning, Andrea. Looks like you guys had a great meeting yesterday. Hope I can participate next month. Will you put me on your list? I know it's early, but will it be on October 4? The meetings I have attended have been so enjoyable. Thank you for doing this!!

Hi Jody,
Yes, the next meeting will be October 4th. I think it will start at 9:00, as we have other plans starting in late morning that day. Watch for the announcement and reply that you want to participate. I’ll post the information about 10ish days before the meeting.
