International (Virtual) Travel Meeting - Sun. June 5 @ 9:30am Pacific Time

Are you ready for another International Travel Meeting? If you like talking about travel and interacting with others who share the same passion this is the place for you. Everyone is welcome, no matter where you live.

There’s a limit to the number of participants. You must reply to this thread to be invited. The first 24 people to respond will have priority to be admitted to the meeting. I can send more invites in case any of the those 24 people don't log in. We have a 5 minute grace period starting at 9:30 a.m. After that any others still in the 'waiting room' can be admitted, up to a total of 24 people. So far this hasn’t been an issue. If someone finds they can’t participate after all, I would appreciate it if you can let me know as soon as possible.

Every meeting there will be topics to discuss. Of course we will discuss other things as well.

Topics for this month:

  • During these uncertain times how are you staying flexible in your planning and during your travels? Do you have a Plan B if you need to change on short notice?

  • Have you had anything special you planned be the highlight of your trip, such as a hot air balloon ride or other experience? Is there anything special you hope to do in the future?

Please let me know in a reply to this post or with a PM if you are interested. If you have participated previously I already have your email address. If you haven’t you will need to send it to me in a PM.

I will be emailing the Zoom link an hour or two before the meeting begins.

Future meetings:

July 10 (1st Sunday is 4th of July weekend)
August 7

I’m looking for suggestions for future topics so please let me know what else you’d like to talk about.

I hate it but I will miss this one and July and August (all by just a couple of days)! I don’t hate the fact that I will be traveling all the dates, but will miss seeing everyone.

TexasTravelmom, how dare you travel on our travel meeting dates! Lol! We will miss you and it will be quite awhile until we see you. We won’t be having travel meetings in September & October because I’ll be traveling then.

Thanks, Valerie!

Andrea, me, too….. My trips seem to include the first of the month for the rest of the year. If timing works, though, I actually might make August from Edinburgh.

I was hoping to make this one but we are celebrating my son’s birthday that day. Have fun! Hopefully I can join in August. 😊

I always enjoy this meeting and did again today,
but I only wish we didn't have to spend so much of it talking about covid shtuff!

sorry I was late. Seems like I must have missed all the covid talk.... whew!

Interesting meeting. Thanks to those able to join us. Sorry to those that don’t want to hear about Covid. People who are preparing to travel are understandably nervous about it and looking for information to help them if they need to alter their plans. I look forward to the time when these discussions are no longer necessary.

Andrea and Jim, thanks for hosting another interesting meeting. Andrea, I didn’t mind the COVID-related discussion at all. It’s very useful to hear how others are thinking about their travel plans and risk assessments/mitigations in that context.

I think Andrea and Valeria are mis-taking my comment -- I'm expressing empathy with our frustrations and anxieties around including covid shtuff in our planning.

Thanks for the clarification, Avi. That's quite different from how I understood your post. I missed, due to being late, the discussion about covid about which you know I have spoken previously. I understood your previous post to say you were unhappy about the discussion. Glad that's sorted...

Nigel, I believe you interpreted it the same way Valerie and I did.

I'm glad I clarified that comment, too, then -- the broader topic of misconstrual and our tendency to impute / attribute criticism to the internal states of others is a fascinating area of inquiry to me -- why do we tend to take someone for a 'grump' and why not, depending on a lot of assumptions .

Imagine if we were talking about budgeting for our travels and I wrote that I wish we didn't have to talk so much about budgeting for our travels -- would you take that to mean that I don't care about money, or would you take that to mean I wish we all didn't need to care about money?

I would take it to mean you didn’t want to hear about money.

I would also think that you didn’t want to hear about money.

I thought I understood both to mean Avi was disappointed that things were such that we have to devote so much time to talk about Covid strategies (or budgeting in Avi’s example). If only we didn’t have either concern! Here’s to both being lesser concerns in the future 🤞

Yes, to lesser concerns in the future. 🥂
