International Virtual Travel Group Meeting - Sunday, Jan. 3rd @ 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time

Who’s ready for another International Travel Meeting? If you enjoy talking about travel and interacting with others that share the same passion, then this is the place for you.

There will be a limit to the number of participants. It has been determined that more than 25 is too many. You must reply to this thread to be invited. The first 24 people to respond will be admitted to the meeting. I can send more invites in case any of the those 24 people don't log in. We will have a 10 minute grace period starting at 9:30 a.m. After that any others still in the 'waiting room' can be admitted, up to a total of 24 people. So far each month anyone who was in the waiting room has been admitted because inevitably some people aren’t able to join in as they had planned. If someone finds they can’t participate after all, I would appreciate it if you can let me know as soon as you know.

Each month there will be a couple of topics to discuss. More suggestions are welcome for future months. Of course we will discuss other things as well.

Topics for this month -

  • Do you go to baths or spas when you travel? Can you recommend any special Spa towns? What should someone expect when they go to a bath or spa?
  • What local festivals are worth planning your trip around?

Please let me know in a reply to this post or with a PM if you are interested. I will then email the Zoom meeting link. If you have participated previously I already have your email address. If you haven’t you will need to send it in a PM.

Happy Holidays and I hope we all have a happy and healthy New Year with plenty of travel in our futures. See you next year!

Please include me in the invites, thanks -
and I will give some thought to the second topic regarding Las Fallas and also Semana Santa. Maybe also marathons and other sporting events?

I would like to join, but I am not available until 10 am. Maybe you could put me on the "waiting" list to join late if the meeting does not fill?

I’ve sent invites to everyone that has replied so far. Lola, I will put you in the waiting room and if we are full I’ll let you know.

Andrea, put me on the list please. :) I am not 100% sure I can make it and will let you know if I can’t - and will pass along my spot to someone else if it is needed.

Thanks, Andrea for organizing these. It's on my calendar. I enjoyed the last one (my first) and am eagerly looking forward to the next.

Hi Andrea - I'd like to play, but I have a lot on that weekend as it is just before the kiddoes head back to school (or not as the case may be, but even if they are virtual it will take prep) so the calendar is full. I just don't know. I want to ....

I’ve sent out the invites to mln, Travelmom, Chani & Nigel. Travelmom and Nigel, I hope you can both make it. Please let me know if it won’t work out for you.

Please add me to join in. Thanks again.

And if I remember it, I have a New Year's Eve sparkly sweater that won't be getting any other use this year ....

Laurie, look at you with all the special holiday attire! Just as I don’t own any Christmas themed clothing I don’t own anything sparkly. Maybe if I shop now I can find a discounted Christmas sweater. Or something with sequins. Hmmm...

I’ve sent the link to everyone who has requested it. Please let me know if you haven’t received it.

Nigel, you MUST join us this month. The subject of baths and spas was your idea. 🤔

Well, if sparkly is a must, then . . . .

I will have a bottle of Spanish sparkly (aka Cava) on ice for the meeting. It's the only sparkly in my home.

Good idea, Chani. We have some peppermint schnapps that we could use to make Rick's "Heidi cocoa" -- maybe in the Christmas market glühwein mugs.

Ooohhh...Heidi cocoa...I can do that. Maybe I can call it Irish cocoa. Instead of the peppermint schnapps I can substitute Baileys. I have to use what’s available. Maybe after that my eyes will sparkle. 😆

Thank you!

Hi Andrea, i’d like a spot please. Will try my darnedest to be there. Thanh leaves that morning so may be tricky. Thanks!

Susan, I sent you the link. I have an idea, why don’t you have Thanh whip up a batch of cinnamon rolls before she leaves and you can put them in the freezer before baking. I can pick them up at your convenience. Or leave the key under the mat and I can let myself in. Either way is fine. No worries about the icing. I can handle that myself. 🤔😋😆

I hope you can make it. You can always try to log in late if necessary. I’m sure you will be sad to see her leave.

Great idea Andrea! I’m afraid she’s run out of time though, but i will gladly make some for you ❤️ You know you’re always welcome here anytime and will let you know where the key is hidden. Good idea about trying to log in after 9:30 if i can’t be on time.

Thanks for getting us together, Andrea!

I really enjoyed hearing everyone's stories, especially the scrubbing clean parts.

You can see some mock-ups (maquetas) and preliminary sketches of a few of the floats/displays from Las Fallas here in this clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SFhVmqfpjQ
The final versions are of course bigger and brighter -
the banner at the end of the clip is an example of the ribbons that winning teams are awarded.

I was just going through my notes about topics to discuss in future meetings. Someone today suggested as a future topic that we talk about independent travel vs. an organized tour, such as a RS tour. I’m sorry but I don’t remember who that was. Anyway, we already had that discussion during a previous meeting. The topic has also been discussed from time to time on the forum. I’m sure whoever is interested can do a search.

Thanks for another fun evening! Sorry I had to leave early. Have gotten too used to going to bed early.
