International Travel Group Meeting (on Zoom): Sunday, March 1 at 9:30am

We cover two topics; a country, region or city in Europe and a more general topic. Please let me know if there are any topics you would like to talk about. You can mention them on this post, during the meeting or by sending me a PM.

Topics for this month:

  • Rome
  • Airline preferences and why? Are there airlines you will never fly on?

The group decided that we will devote the first hour of the meeting to the first topic, take a short break, then continue to the second topic. YOU MUST RESPOND EACH MONTH TO THAT MONTH’S MEETING POST IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND. If you have attended before I already have your email address. If not, you need to send it to me in a PM. I will not have time to ask you for it if you neglect to do this.

Please notify me no later than 7:00a.m. Pacific Time the day of the meeting if you would like to attend. The emails with the zoom link will be emailed 1 - 2 hours before the meeting begins. I will post here when I’ve sent them. If you didn’t get it please check your junk/spam folder and if it’s not there contact me ASAP. Once the meeting begins I will be unable to do anything. I usually log in at 9:15 if anyone is interested is joining early to chat.

I often get meeting requests from people with 1 post (the one requesting to join) or PM’s from people with 0 posts. We welcome everyone, but without a posting history I am asking you to private message me and tell me a little about yourself and provide your real first name. Please don’t forget to give me your email address in a PM. Do not post it on the forum.

Upcoming meetings:
* April 12
* May 3
* June 7

I'd love to be in Rome but may be late after a mid afternoon in person meeting

Because I'm planning to be in Rome for 5 nights in mid-April, I'm very interested. But I'll be driving back from a long weekend in the Galilee and don't know if I'll be home in time - 7.30 pm here.

Yes, please add me. I will only be on a short time, though. Really interested in the airline opinions.
Thanks!

I will be late, but will join. Do you have a phone number to just get audio in case I am not somewhere with wife?

Chani, just log in when/if you can. I hope you have a good trip.

Sorry Laurie Beth, I don’t know of a phone number option. We have had people log in while they were driving but I suspect they were using their cellular service.

Thanks, Andrea. I take adult learning classes from the U of MN and they have a phone number option. However, I don't know how. You can take me off the list so someone else can take my spot.

I’d like to join - but can only stay for an hour, in case you run short of spots. Thanks!

Laurie Beth & TTM, I no longer worry about spots. You are both on the list. See you Sunday!

Glad I got to join you for part of the call. On Rome, I wanted to recommend: "Rome, the 2nd Time" by Dianne Bennett & Wm. Graebner. I hope it's still in print. Also, it may have been mentioned, but I took the metro to the neighborhood where you can walk to see the aquaducts. It was thrilling. It was so long ago I used Ron in Rome and his fabulous walks as my transport guru to get there.

I couldn't remember the name of this less-well-known site yesterday, but it is Palazzo Colonna. Formerly a family palazzo, they have moved to the third floor and now the remainder is a gorgeous mix of paintings, sculpture, furniture and furnishings. We met the current senior member of the family in the elevator and we even had a nice chat for a few minutes! We didn't buy tickets in advance, but did have to wait in line for about 10 minutes. It is near Termini, but entry points vary depending on the day. It's either Via Della Pilotta or Piazza SS Apostoli. Saturday hours are shorter. There are tours available, and it probably would be a good idea to buy those in advance, or you can wander about unaccompanied. Their website is good and it gives all the details. https://www.galleriacolonna.it/en/

We had to leave before the airline discussion. If you've got strong feelings or warnings, and don't mind taking a couple minutes, I'd appreciate a PM. Thanks.

I had one more idea for a topic. Bucket lists.
We all have that one place we always wanted to visit. Did you make it there or is still on your list?
And if you did make it, was it all you thought it would be?

I’ll keep thinking….Barbara

Andrea, I have a suggestion for a future topic.

Favorite group tour other than Rick’s.

I’ve read many opinions on other tour companies on the board (e.g., Road Scholar, Odysseys, etc.) but what I’d really like to hear is first-hand experience on one or two specific tours (e.g., I really enjoyed the x tour offered by company y and here is why)
