International Travel Group Meeting- Sunday June 1st @ 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time

It’s that time again, so let’s talk travel! Each meeting we have two topics, a country, region or city in Europe and a more general topic. I’m always interested to hear any topics you would like to talk about. You can mention them on this post, during the meeting or send me a PM.

Topics for this month:
* Switzerland: Best places to go, trains and passes, when to go and more!
* How do you decide how flexible to make your trip?

It was decided during the last meeting that going forward we will devote the first hour to the first topic, take a short break and then continue to the second topic.

YOU MUST RESPOND EACH MONTH TO THAT MONTHS MEETING POST IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND. If you have attended before I already have your email address. If not, you need to send it to me in a PM. I will not have time to ask you for it if you neglect to do this. The emails with the zoom link will be emailed 1 - 2 hours before the meeting begins. I will post here when I’ve sent them. If you didn’t get it check your junk/spam folder and if it’s not there contact me ASAP. Once the meeting begins I will be unable to do anything.

Every month I get meeting requests from people with 1 post (the one requesting to join) or PM’s from people with 0 posts. We welcome everyone, but without a posting history I am asking you to private message me and tell me a little about yourself and provide your real first name. Please don’t forget to give me your email address in a PM, do not post it on the public forum.

Future meetings:

*Sunday, June 29 (I will be traveling in July)
*Sunday August 3
I may schedule another meeting in late August. I will be in Europe in September, October and November.

Hi Andrea, looking forward to getting together to hear about Switzerland. It's on my bucket list. That and about 100 other countries!

Sorry to miss Switzerland, hoping to go there in 2027. We will be on a long road trip from AK to CA.

Switzerland has been on my bucket list, as well. I think I may have ancestral connections, but so far that trail has reached a dead end. I missed the last International Travel Group Meeting due to not feeling well, so I hope (knock on wood/air/whatever) to make it to this one-so please add me. I'll be taking care of a kingly fur baby, but I think he wont mind as long as he gets a walk or three.

Please add us. We are traveling but should be able to figure out the time difference. I know from past experience that it is around dinner time in the UK.

Mona, Yes it's 5.30pm in the UK.

Except for Spring and Autumn when the clocks go out of kilter due to different Daylight Saving. Then it's anyone's guess.

Usually on a Seattle monthly Evensong Sunday!!

Funny how we remember things.

It was a really good meeting today, with a lot of good information and enthusiasm for Switzerland. We will be in Switzerland in September and I shared a guide book I bought that has 21 easy hikes as well as other excursions. I’ve been reading about the various hikes to determine which ones would appeal to us the most and I’m very impressed with the level of detail. The title of the book is Walking in Switzerland’s Berner Oberland. The description is Easy Hikes in the Jungfrau Region- 2025. The authors are Laurel Barton and Richard Barton and I bought it on Amazon. I highly recommend it to anyone spending time in the BO.

Thanks, Andrea! I will be back to Switzerland in 2026 and appreciated the tips! Sorry I had to leave early - had other appointments for the afternoon. :)

Yes, thank you everyone for the info about Switzerland. And thank you Andrea for the book tips.
Even though Switzerland was not one my travel list, I’ll going to give it another look at. I’ll order Rick’s guidebook as soon as the new version comes out this summer.
My problem, and I know many people have this same problem, is that I have so many other places I want to visit - Romania, Bulgaria, Morocco, Malta to name a few, and places I really want to return to - France, England, Germany. I know, everyone should have such problems.
Hopefully we’ll get to Switzerland one day while we can still take a nice, leisurely walk, er, I mean hike.

Barbara, that made me laugh! I was just bemoaning that the other day! I really wish I could clone myself so I could visit everyplace on my destination list. :-)

Andrea, sorry I missed it—it was a hectic day yesterday, but I will hopefully be there next month.

Happy June, everyone!

Mardee, I’m sorry you missed it too. The next meeting is June 29th because I’ll be gone the first Sunday of July. I hope you can make it.
