International Travel Group Meeting - Sunday 1/22 @ 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time

This month we are having a bonus International Travel meeting because there won’t be a meeting in February. If you like talking about travel and interacting with others who share the same passion this is the place for you. Everyone is welcome, no matter where you live.

There’s a limit to the number of participants. You must reply to this thread to be invited. The first 24 people to respond will have priority to be admitted to the meeting. I can send more invites in case any of the those 24 people don't log in. We have a 5 minute grace period starting at 9:30 a.m. After that any others still in the 'waiting room' can be admitted, up to a total of 24 people. So far this hasn’t been an issue. If someone finds they can’t participate after all, I would appreciate it if you can let me know as soon as possible.

Every meeting there will be topics to discuss.

Topics for this month:

  • Do food preferences influence where you choose to travel?
  • What have you bought during your travels that you love?

Please let me know in a reply to this post or with a PM if you are interested. If you have participated previously I already have your email address. If you haven’t you will need to send it to me in a PM.

I will be emailing the Zoom link an hour or two before the meeting begins.

Please think of some topics for future meetings and share them during the meeting or you can PM me if you prefer.

Upcoming meetings will be:

March 5
April date to be determined

I would love to join. I hope you have a few minutes for me to talk cause I am a shopper when I travel. The shopkeepers have my number (including CC) within just a few minutes in their stores.

Andrea, don't you mean the meeting will be Jan 22 & no meeting in Feb?

Can you send us a link? We will set an alarm or maybe the roosters will be crowing by then.

Hi Andrea. I think you mean the meeting is 1/22 and not 2/22.
I’m heading to Mexico on 1/21 so I can’t make this meeting either. I missed the last meeting due to weather induced migraine. I can’t wait to head south to better weather, and to be headache free.

Oh boy, see what happens when I try to do things too early in the morning. 🙄 I’ve corrected the date and time in the title. Thanks to those who pointed the wrong information out.

Diane, I’m sorry you have to miss another meeting and I hope the warmer weather helps you. We are getting pelted with rain right now like I’ve never seen before here. I thought the windows were going to break!

Please include me in the zoom invites -
and I hope we broaden the food preferences topic to use our experiences as a way to talk about cultural encounters, too.

Here's an appetizer: I wandered into the back of a bar in Madrid to find a well-worn dining room and practiced my Spanish to ask for a dish that is typical of Madrid. The woman asked me si usted tiene un estomago fuerte, which literally means a strong stomach, and I assumed she meant to ask if I was really hungry, so I said for sure, and I was served for the main course Callos Madrileños ,
which is stewed beef tripe.

I can imagine that for some tourists this would have been like being in a face-your-fears game show. I enjoyed the challenge, and the staff were pleased that I had a good time.

If that thread that was taken down yesterday about unhealthy eating while in the EU had lasted, I would have enjoyed posting this tidbit there. :-)

Thanks, Andrea. We had quite the downpour today as well. We had Niagara Falls for a bit. Too much water for the gutters. The good part is that our reservoir is near to overflowing.

@Avi, we can definitely expand on the topic.

good refreshments - from eggs to pickles to lox with cream cheese. What a party. Maybe I'll use a mug to put it all in. Poffertjes on a side plate - or tile.

Nigel, don't forget the tapas. I am really looking forward to them. It was a really fun discussion today - food and shopping.....wow.

Yes, that was all fun! And don’t forget Jim’s 100 hats!

Fun meeting. As for hats, he has more than 100…just saying. I also misspoke when I said I didn’t buy any mugs during our 16 weeks in Europe last year. Our apartment in Nice only had coffee cups without handles, which were too hot to hold. What to do, what to do? Buy mugs of course. Jim got one too. I, on the other hand, didn’t buy a single hat for myself. I did buy some of the striped shirts that SharYn loves so much.

Hi Bridget, welcome to the forum. People must respond for each meeting after I post it to let me know they want to attend. Participants vary from month to month and there is no way I have the time to note someone wanting to attend so far in advance. The next meeting is on March 5 and I will post the announcement around February 24 or 25. Watch for it and reply to let me know.
