Inagural Seattle/Eastside Group Meeting - 1/27/19 1-3 PM

We have had quite a few replies to this post - which is awesome! One person thought a good idea would be to bring old travel guides that you no longer need and we can do a book swap. Sounded like a great idea to me.

Hello,

My name is Randi and I love to travel. I'm always looking for other people who love to travel as much as I do. I thought I'd start a new travel group in the Seattle/Eastside area to gauge interest in a gathering of other like-minded globetrotters here in the Pacific Northwest.

To get things kicked off, let's bring a few favorite stories of past adventures, and then have an open discussion about where you are thinking of heading next. We can share insights and opinions about attractions, hotels, restaurants, etc.

I have booked a large conference room at the King County Library in Redmond for this meeting on Sunday, January 27th, from 1 to 3 PM. The address is 15990 NE 85th St, Redmond, WA 98052.

Hi Randi,

I tried for several years to get a Seattle group going, with little success. We met 4-5 times, mostly downtown Seattle and once in Edmonds (at the Rick Steves store) when a longtime RS forum member was visiting. The most attendees we achieved was 5; the fewest was 3. So I gave up.

Hopefully an Eastside location will draw more people. I will try to come, but can’t promise at this early date.

Would you consider adding a book/map exchange to the event? Many of us have books or maps that we don’t need any longer and would be happy to pass on to someone who can use them. It might be an additional draw to get people there (free books!!! Free maps!!!)

The RS reunions are on the 25th & 26th in Edmonds so you might get some stragglers from there.

Hi Charlie,

I was hoping this would be the same weekend, but did not know how to look it up. Hopefully there would be some visitors here for the reunion at the meeting, then. Might you be among them?

I've put it on my calendar. I'd be glad to look at any detailed maps of S. France that attendees may have. Thx

Hello fellow travelers - a few of you noticed that this event does indeed fall the same weekend of the Rick Steves Group Tour Member reunion celebrations that are happening on 1/25 and 1/26 in Edmonds. Hopefully we can piggyback onto that and get a strong attendance at this meeting.

Randi, thanks for arranging the group meeting. I will mark my calendar. I will be attending the RS Reunion on 1/26. Looking forward to discussing past & future adventures.

I am especially interested in feedback for our 2019 trip to Budapest, Vienna, Cesky Krumlov, Prague and Amsterdam.

Hello fellow Seattle/Eastside Travelers - Happy New Year. May 2019 bring you many new exciting travel adventures.

I thought it might be a fun way to keep things engaging to have slide shows. To that end, I will be bringing my laptop and a projector to the meeting. I will kick things off by showing some photos of my last October trip to Berlin/Prague/Vienna. Feel free to put some of your own photos on a flash drive if you would like to present. If we run out of time during this meeting, and people like the idea, we can do this going forward.

Looking forward to meeting you intrepid globetrotters next weekend.

Randi

Hello Fellow Travelers!

I hope that you all had a chance to get up to Edmonds this weekend for some of the festivities. I think Rick and his staff literally took over Edmonds.

I hope to see you all today @ 1 PM. I'll be bringing my computer to show a review of my recent trip to Berlin/Prague/Vienna - and will also be bringing those guide books if anyone wants to have them.
