European Zoom Meet-up, 20.04.2021

Would there be any interest in having a Zoom meeting for those of us who live in Europe? Since the American meetings are starting to go back to personal meetings, thought maybe we could get something started for those of us who live here?
There is already the International Zoom meeting once a month, so this would be extra.
I am happy to host this and it could be on a weeknight if that would suit anyone else.

Thoughts?

Is there a day or evening and time that works best? Perhaps a weeknight at 19:00 or 20:00 German time?

I'm often busy with meetings so need to be able to plan. Pick a time and I'll do my best.

Hi Jo, I would like to get myself back in action in joining you all. 7 or 8 pm your/our time on a weeknight should normally work for me (I have an apartment board meeting every other week on Thursdays but no need for you all to schedule around that).

Normally I should be available since our curfew starts at 7 pm nightly !!!!

Any chance you would let a Californian listen in ? ;-)

The purpose of this Zoom meeting is just getting to know each other, as the other travel groups do. I have had the pleasure of going to the Sacramento meetings a few times over the years and then this past year on Zoom. The international meeting on Zoom is also fun. So, why not a group for those of us who live here?

I would be interested in joining the meeting as I live in the UK (England). Weekdays are fine and so are evenings.

Ms Jo, were you thinking this month or May?

How does Tues. evening, 20 April sound?
20:00 German time, 19:00 for the UK?

Generally that would have been perfect.

But - always a but -

a bit difficult that day, as it is a Holy Day for me, with the Holy Day commemoration at 5pm UK, and then as it will be the day of the election of the new governing body, perhaps I will have to attend a meeting for election of officers. Since I am the Secretary this year I really need to hold that time free.

Go ahead and I will join as I am able.

Jo, What are the rules for me? We'll be back in July.

Haha, there are no rules. Yes, we want you to be there, Bets.

I am interested as well, but my Monday and Tuesday evenings are committed long-term. The time here is CET+1 so an hour that's convenient for you is fine for me.

This will be just the 1st meeting and nothing is set in stone.
We can change the days and time for May. I just have commitments on most Wed. nights.
Perhaps a Monday would be good for May?

I will send a zoom link to you in a message, for those who want to attend this on the 20th.

I hope this doesn’t mean that people in Europe won’t be interested the other International meetings. We want you all to participate in our meetings too.

I think it will be 2 different kinds of meetings. I plan on continuing in your international zoom group, Andrea.

OK. Thanks. Not particularly interested in that. I can see why I was unclear on the purpose.

On a first meeting, aside from being able to put faces to names, it would be helpful to have people describe what local conditions vis-a-vis Covid are.

Sending the zoom link in messages now.
Am getting my AstraZeneca vaccine this evening at 18:00, so hopefully will be fit tomorrow evening. If I find myself feeling awful tomorrow night, we will move the meeting to Thur. evening.

This forum is a bit weird. It only let me send 1 message with the link and now won't let me send anymore. Even when I changed the title of the message.

I'm now free tomorrow. I'll be there - maybe Carol will pop in.. Hope the jab goes well

Had a great time, we did what Chani suggested (but missed seeing her) and had a pretty darn good first (of I hope many more) meeting.

Good to know how others are dealing with things and make new friends.

Thanks Ms Jo

Ms Jo, this is one of the forum's spam fighting mechanisms. When I send multiple messages for our monthly meetings, I have to vary the text of each message enough that the spam algorithm views each message as unique. It becomes an exercise in finding new and creative ways to say "here's the meeting link."

Perhaps you could send your message in German and French and Italian for spam-beating variety.

Ah, if I only spoke French and Italian that would be great!
It was ok posting the link here on the page.

The dilemma CWsocial mentions is why I prefer to send the Zoom link via email. It’s easier and faster for me that way.

As long as you don't get zoom-bombed. You might want to make sure your meetings have a "waiting room" (a Zoom meeting setting) so that you can choose who is given entry to the room and deny access to anyone you don't recognize.
