Coeur d'Alene/Spokane Travel Group - March 2 at Woops Bakery

If you live in the area or are visiting for the day, welcome! And a special welcome to our newest participants who came last month! I’m looking forward to meeting you. : )

We will meet at our usual spot at 10am - Woops! French Bakery, 119 N 4th St, in downtown Coeur d'Alene.

TOPIC: “What do you use as a personal bag, and what items do you keep in it at airports?”. ”Bring your personal bag if it’s convenient, also!

Somebody please remind me of any topics we wanted to highlight this month. Pam, I think I need to consider your time shifter app for returning to the Pacific Time Zone - LOL!

Jean, I'll show it to you and will try and remember to bring my iPad Mini. I screenshot the daily timings so you can see how it went...oh actually I printed them out too. Let me see if I can find the copies as well.

Did you want to talk about Dan's experience with his bag not fitting in the sizer?

We had newcomers last month so hopefully they'll be back and they may have questions about their plans.

Obviously I'll be there, hahaha!!

That would be great, Pam!

Aligning with Dan’s suitcase experience, maybe we word it as “What do you use as a personal bag, and what items do you keep in it at airports?”

Oh good idea. I packed differently for my intra-island flights in Scotland as the planes are so small nearly everything has to be checked.

One of the notes I made on my most recent trip was, "Make a list of the things I need to put in the personal bag." Great minds...

Wish I could join you! I’d love to meet you all some day. Maybe you can share your ideas somehow? Do you take notes? Your topic is right on.
Have some pastry for me. 😄

Pastelholic, we would love to have you join us! Coeur d’Alene is a popular summer vacation spot…hint, hint!

We might be able to share a few notes from our conversations for that specific topic. Sometimes we are having such a great time talking about anything related to travel, someone’s recent trips or upcoming trips, new questions, etc. that we just briefly mention the topic. I’ll plan to add a few notes on a reply Saturday afternoon.

Janet, yes, it’s a good idea. And placement can change depending on the situation.

I have my very detailed packing list in categories that checklist every item and exactly where it is placed in my backpack or my personal bag when I am packing. But, there are items that need to be transferred if the airline suddenly insists on taking my backpack. We had this happen as we were loading for our last flight to Malaga. (Although I ended up keeping my backpack.)

For instance, I quickly moved my prescription medicine from my toiletry kit into my personal bag. And my iPad was moved from the slot in the back of my backpack into the slot inside my personal bag. I also moved my folder of tickets & reservations into my personal bag. Those were the three items I couldn’t easily replace or were of most value.

Looking forward to Saturday. Welcome back Jean. I just got back from Az trip and spent most of it re-evaluating my bags so the topic is timely. Pam will be interested in your Scottish tales. I am assuming I can take a day pack on small plane and will have to check my usual carryon bag.

Hi all! Thank you for such a warm welcome at my first meeting last month. That was so fun and helpful with all the info shared! I will be there this Saturday and looking forward to seeing you all again. My cousin Debra is going to join us too. She will be going to Ireland next month and eager to hear from those of you that have gone before. :) See you all this weekend!

Judy...yes, you can take a personal item on board the Loganair flights. I used my Baggallini tote and I can bring it if you want to see the size.

Abrookern - SO glad we didn't scare you off, lol!! And of course your cousin is welcome as well!

We may have another new person - someone who was sitting in the chair next to me at my hair stylist's,lol!!

I will be checking for peanut M&M’s in those bags on Saturday - LOL!

Looking forward to seeing everyone again! And please remind me that I am getting my second shingles vaccine right after the meeting. : )

Oh yikes on the vax after the meeting. I've heard you get better results if you eat an Almond Croissant or a couple of macarons before a vax, hahaha!!

Wow, great advice, Pam! Kind of like the Vitamin G (gelato) I take every day during a trip….just to boost my immune system. : )

Fingers crossed for no snow tonight, but it's not looking good.

Leslie, I hope the snow will just be a light dusting, so you can come. We’ve certainly had a variety of weather each day recently!

Today we just had a skiff, but people seemed to be sliding off the road. My Facebook reminded me that last year at this time we had that huge snow storm and it took me 6 hrs to fly from Spokane to Seattle. Think spring

Oh good grief!

Yes, hoping you don't get much tonight.

Some snow this morning. I will be there at 10am, and Pam lives close to the bakery to come. Hope others can make it, too, if you’re comfortable driving.

Pastelholic, we had a lot of fun conversations and some help for a new traveler which we gladly were happy to help, so we didn’t focus much time on the question about what to pack in our personal bag when we’re at airports. I would summarize it as - look at all of your items in your entire packing list. Which items are critical to have or difficult to replace? Those should be in your personal bag or in a large Ziploc bag in your suitcase, ready to grab, if you needed to have your suitcase gate checked internationally.

For me, that’s my prescription meds, my iPad mini, my money belt contents, my paper pack of documents (back up to TripIt) and a set of underwear.
