Coeur d'Alene/Spokane Travel Group - April 6 at Woops Bakery

(Posting this early since we have Spring Break and Easter travels right before this next one.)

If you live in the area or are visiting for the day, welcome! We’re a friendly, casual mix of attendees - some seasoned travelers & others planning a new trip or tour experience. We have a variety of travel styles that makes a wonderful mix of experiences and conversation.

We will meet at our usual spot at 10am - Woops! French Bakery, 119 N 4th St, in downtown Coeur d'Alene.

TOPIC: Since we had snow last month and some people couldn’t attend, go ahead and bring your personal bag you bring as your second item on the plane. Bonus points if it’s packed and ready to go!

Updated topic: your disaster prevention & recovery plan.

Yea! Count me in!

I wondered, if there is enough conversation room, if we can touch on "disaster recovery" or better yet "disaster prevention" plans in relation to the recent traveler who lost all her cash/CCs.

On one Road Scholar trip I was on, about 4 days in I realized one woman was very worried and kept needing to go to the Post Office. It turns out she walked out of her house without her wallet!! Had NO money, no cards, just her passport. She was trying to get her daughter to send her some money but it was not working. While many of the meals are covered on Road Scholar tours she was not eating lunch because she had no money. I pressed her to take 50E from me, telling her she could mail me a check when she got home. The guide had also tried to get her to take some money but she didn't know how she would repay him. Now of course, I check, double check and triple check that I've got money and cards before I walk out of the house.

Good idea, Pam! It’s certainly been on my mind after her experience in Avignon. I charged up my old phone to see if I want to bring it as a backup, just-in-case plan, but the battery is so gone that it barely holds a charge. That wouldn’t work for taking photos during the trip.

I so hope to be there. And I'll be happy to.talk about how to handle when someone uses your debit card for $1000 in Michigan while you're in italy with no international phone service.

Leslie, I hope that’s a story none of us repeat - wow! Interested to hear how you dealt with that one!

I came up with an acronym this morning to say before I will leave each hotel. Have I PACT? (“packed”):

P-Phone
A-”Attractive” RS Money Belt (or Assets, if you don’t wear a money belt)
C-Chargers/adapters
T-Toiletry kit w/ prescription meds

Leslie!! How have we never heard this story?

Jean...that is brilliant! I usually start a sweep in the bathroom and then from the far side of the hotel room to the door to make sure I've got everything. Now I will mutter PACT along with that! hahahaha!!

Arrghhh! I may not be able to make this one, as we have a photographer scheduled at 11 for a listing that day. Hate when work gets in the way of my fun! LOL!

Jean
I will be happy to bring an attractive money belt to the meeting that may not cause you any additional weight to your packing.

Leslie, : ). I could pack an extra one & trade off washing them during the month!

Oh....I want to see the attractive money belt! I bought one of the StashBandz but it was too tight for my menopot.

Pam, the ”attractive” money belt is the ugly but very functional RS one - ha! I needed a word that started with “A” for PACT.

Hahaha...well, I've got several of the RS ones! I thought maybe it was one you'd sewn!

And...giving this a boost back to the top for the coming week. Looking at the forecast, and I realize this far out it's not particularly accurate, but it's a high of 49 with rain. Oh joy. Well, at least it may keep the traffic down in the bakery, lol!!

Popping this up in the list to say it’s almost time to check out whether the Woops Bakery will have the Red Velvet cookies for Leslie & Pam!

Our weather looks like rain, so it’s a perfect time to get together over a cup of coffee and talk travel! See you this Saturday!

Of course I haven't been on this site for ages -- been overwhelmed finalizing plenty of summer travel and getting ready for Paris on the 15 - great excuse I think. Right now I have my grandkids 4 of the 5 weekdays this week due to Spring Break for them but not their parents. I will be very happy to be there on Saturday. :)

Bumping to the top again!

Judy, I'm glad you'll be there! They do not serve alcohol but maybe some sugar will soothe you after your busy week, lol!!

We will have a full table this time, including a few new guests! : ). If anyone arrives before me, please reserve the middle table - thanks!

Just a reminder to bring your “personal bag” you bring on your flights.

I was eyeing mine today and although I don't travel until October I may bring it packed up, hahaha! Extra cookie for me!

I'll try to get there between 945 and 950 to snag the big table if it's available. Yes, full house...I think Kim and Terry are going to make it. I wonder if Angela's cousin will be able to come even if Angela has to work...she leaves soon, I think.

I’ll be missing the meeting by just one day :(, but I’d like to give my $.02 about my very favorite personal item for travel. While many people choose something other than a backpack, both John and I love the Tom Bihn Synik 22 (liters) backpack. It works well for both my guy (6’1”) and me (5’2”), meets most airlines’ size requirements, and squeezes nicely under the seat. Lots of nice features, but I love the clamshell zipper opening after many years of an Eddie Bauer “top-loader”. And lastly, I think they’re pretty…cue an eye roll…
Would someone please enjoy a croissant for me?? See you in May!
