Atlanta Travel Group met in person!

Just had to share that our group met tonight for the first time since last February. It was a pleasantly mild evening here in Georgia for us to use my gazebo. We had wine and delicious appetizers while social distancing. It did my heart good to see my travel friends, it had been far too long. We called one friend who moved to Massachusetts and chatted with her, too. Anyone else have enjoyable in-person meetings?

No, it is still too dangerous to do it. Is the state’s population compliant with mask wearing? Is there a state mask mandate? I would need to know those facts first.
I am currently in New England with mandated mask wearing and quarantines of two weeks for arriving visitors. We do not know when it will be safe to return to AZ.

We were not in a public place and were not face to face. We were social distancing and wearing masks. We used the gazebo in my small neighborhood.
I know Georgia is in the news for high numbers of Covid cases but our small group- 4 people, met safely. It’s possible to be safe even if there’s no state mask mandate.
Suki, I hope this time will become a distant memory and we can retain some aspects of our former lifestyle. Stay well.

A mask wearing grandchild returned to a NC university and she all of her roommates got COVID immediately. They did not attend parties, go to bars etc.
We are not seeing many of our friends or relatives due to COVID. That is the way it is where I am located. People are in lockdown.

My family can’t visit us because of a mandated state quarantine of two weeks. I hope your small group stays well.

Great to hear your group met personally. Hopefully more join the get together next time. It is time to make steps toward normality and future travel.

That’s great you got to meet again. Or group didn’t meet at all from a March through June. In July and August we met in a quiet public park. We all wear masks and spread out our lawn chairs at least 6 feet apart. It’s been great to have this going again.

Judy, great to hear you could get together and enjoy that wonderful topic of travel that excites and energizes us!

I’ve been riding a bit of a roller coaster of emotions lately - was supposed to leave in a couple of weeks for Italy for my first Mother/Daughter Italy trip. It would have been her first time to Europe.

Jean,
Italy is a great first destination for Europe, I sure hope you will have that mother/daughter experience! Maybe in 2021?

Hi Judy,

I received vouchers for almost all of our non refundable reservations, so I’m planning our trip for 2021. I’ve been to Europe 10+ times, so I let my 40-year old daughter choose any country for her first trip, and she selected Italy.

Any special topics at your group meeting this time?

Jean,
No, we didn’t really have any special travel topics at our get together. It was just a couple hours of socializing and enjoying being together for awhile. We likely will continue meeting outdoors on a patio, hopefully every couple months. We are pretty much staying home as much as possible, I work from home. One of us is a teacher and will return to the classroom on a limited basis. Wearing masks and social distancing. We take the medical experts’ advice very seriously.

With a group of 4 I’m sure it wasn’t too difficult to distance. We haven’t had an in person meeting since February. I’ve contemplated an in person meeting in a park, but with our group size (averaging 20 people) I have yet to find one with enough shade and an open bathroom that would work. We have long meetings, so a bathroom is a must.

Andrea,
Could you divide up your group into ten people, the first ten members sign up and attend on one date and the others another time. It’s not perfect but it might suffIce. My personal rule is 4 people or fewer for any gathering. It’s gives such a lift to the spirit to see each other. I think it’s possible if we are smart about it.

We have a smaller group too, just five people at our park meetings. It’s a pretty quiet park, so no one else comes anywhere near us. Since we just pull up lawn chairs under a tree, no one has to get near anyone or touch anything other than our own chairs and cars. Even sitting at a distance from each other we all wear our masks. It is really nice to meet in person. I am not sure what we are going to do if things are still the same once it gets cold, but we have another few months where we can meet in the park like this.
