Atlanta: Is there a travel group?

If no, would anyone be interested in forming one? From what I have read here, other groups meet every few weeks to discuss myriad topics related to travel. Sounds really interesting to me...thoughts from fellow Atlantans?

Thanks,
Judy B

I'm way up OTP ("outside the perimeter" for any non-ATL people lurking) in Forsyth County but would be interested if there are folks in North Fulton or thereabouts.

Celeste,
I'm on the North side of town but ITP. It would be easy to meet somewhere in the middle of where everyone happens to be located, that is if others respond with an interest in meeting. And, if we are not too widely spread out. Atlanta is a huge metro area. But what fun it would be to talk travel with others who love traveling.
We shall see.
Thanks,

I think there used to be one but not sure what happened to it. Maybe still around? I live in Buckhead near Midtown and have two little ones but would love to meet up if I can work it out. I don't mind driving as I do it endlessly for work. Headed to Paris/UK next week but I'll check back. Good luck with it!

Leslie,
I am glad to hear of your interest. Possibly others will check in who may have gone to meetings in the past and we can restart the group, or just have a new one.

Enjoy your trip to Paris/UK - would love to hear about it. This is why we need a group!

Thanks,
Judy B

I could always be convinced to come down to Ikea. We can pretend we're somewhere in Europe with the rolling tray carts in the restaurant. :-)

That's a great idea! I'm half Scandinavian, too. I'm sure I would feel comfortable there. In fact, that is one of the RS tours I would like to take - Scandinavia in 14 Days.

There was a group but I think it has pretty much disbanded for a variety of reasons so we might have to start a new one.

Anyone going to the Rick Steves talk at GPB tomorrow? (11/10/15)

Thought I would give this topic a bump up. Anyone interested in an Atlanta Travel group?

Thoughts on location and meeting place?

Hey Judy! I'd try to make it. I don't have any Europe trips in the works just yet but thinking about Amalfi Coast and Rome with my sister this fall. I've never been south of Rome so I'd love some help with that. I'm open to locations too.

Hi Leslie,
I will think of a place and time and post it. So glad to hear you are interested. I love to talk about travel with like minded people, my friends are bored by now with my interest in traveling.
This is exciting! I am thinking of somewhere near the Perimeter Mall area. Would that suit you?

David is correct. A consistent day, time and place are crucial to success. We have been meeting monthly for almost 6 years. Everyone knows where to find us. Everyone who loves travel is welcome to come. We meet at Panera Bread because we like the free wifi and they don't have wait staff so we aren't keeping them from turning over the table to new customers. One month a customer overheard us and asked if he could join in. Of course...the more the merrier!

Having the group here has been so rewarding. It's a great way to make friends with people who have a common passion. We even have people from the Bay Area group attend, some regularly and some occasionally. Some of us have attended some of their meetings. They meet on the 2nd Saturday, as opposed to our 3rd Saturday meetings. That was intentional so our meetings wouldn't conflict with each other.

It does take one person to get it going. It's well worth the very little effort it takes. Good luck!

Judy, the perimeter area would probably be a good spot since it's not too far north for us city dwellers and not too far south for those in the burbs. I'm not at all familiar with what's around there though but I'm sure there's plenty of places to meet.

Glad to hear it, Celeste. I just looked it up a location for Panera Bread on Google and have found a good one in terms of location. I think it will be relatively quiet. It is south of I-285 3 or 4 miles and convenient to I-75 and GA-400. Also, it is in Powers Ferry Square and not far from Chastain Park.

The address is:
Panera Bread
3714 Roswell Rd
Atlanta, GA 30342
404-869-0581

Let's try 10 am on Sat. May 21. I will be there for an hour with some Rick Steves' guide books on the table.

I look forward to meeting some of you!

Hi Judy! I sent you a PM too. Let me know if you have still changed the time. I'll probably be able to make it!
