April Denver travel group meeting

Next Saturday would be the next scheduled meeting of the Denver travel group, but it doesn't look like the ban will be lifted anytime soon, so obviously we can't meet as usual.

To quote Jane from the Tulsa group, "Let's hope that we can get together again May 16 to share our travel stories, plans, and dreams. Until then, stay home, stay safe."

I would not be averse to having a virtual meeting (I've never done one, so I think it would take some time to set up. Maybe next month.), but I don't think the style (spontaneous) of our meeting is very conducive to a virtual meeting. Any thoughts?

Maybe someone in the group has a paid Zoom account. The free Zoom only allows 30 mins or so for the meeting. That would be very easy to do.

Spontaneous meetings work fine on Zoom -- although it is easier if there is a host who makes sure everyone has a chance to contribute at the first check-in conversation. What does not work is multiple side conversations -- only one audio at a time (arrange for smaller chats later to discuss specific questions.)

Maybe someone in your group has tech experience ? Or a child/ grandchild who can advise ??

Edit -- Zoom says there is a 40-minute limit on free accounts, but it also posted that limits were waived on our last virtual meeting.

Hi Lee, we've now held 2 virtual travel meetings. For the first, I used Adobe Connect because I've used it hundreds of times at work and knew I could host it easily.

For the second meeting, I decided to use Zoom, as more people had already used it. It took me about 5 minutes to set myself up as a meeting host. 5 more minutes to test my own audio and video. Our meeting went off easily, and as Laura B described, part way into the meeting, Zoom notified us that the 40 minute limit was lifted.

I would be happy to help you get Zoom set up in advance, so that you can host for your group. Or test it in advance with just 1 group member, so that you feel confident before your group meeting.

Lee, if you want to try it, I can host. It's really easy. Time limits are being waived. Have a couple of people's emails, so will need others. Won't post the link here, as that invites zoombombing.

Is anyone else interested in having a virtual meeting if Linda sets it up?

There was a time, many years ago, when I had everyone's emails, but I lost the list. PM me your emails and cc Linda.
