A question for "members" of the Denver group

Next Saturday, the 17th, is the day for our next meeting. How do you members feel about resuming having our meetings at Panera?

A lot of us have had all of our shots (it will be 2 weeks and one day since Robin and I had our second shots), so it should be safe for us to resume in-person meetings. Post or PM me about your shot status and what you would like to do.

If we want to wait another month, Faith will set up the Zoom meeting for this month.

I'm wondering if we could combine both in-person and Zoom in one meeting. Panera has wifi (that's why Frank and I chose it in the first place) so with a laptop, we could include Zoom attendees. I have an old 32" TV that works as a monitor; we could set it up with a laptop at the end of the table for Zoom members. I'm wondering if that would work or if background noise would be a problem.

I'm partially vaccinated and set to receive my second shot two weeks from today. So I'll be fully vaccinated come mid-May and looking forward to an in-person meeting.

However, I realized that I'm double-booked for this Saturday and will regretfully have to miss this month's meet-up.

I can’t wait to get back to in person meetings and think your idea of using Panera's WiFi is a wonderful one. I have loved seeing Priscilla and Rebecca at our meetings and would love to see that still be possible. I’m happy to wait until May to resume in person although I’m living in that “rogue” county (Douglas) that as of Friday will have no restrictions except what your conscience dictates. I am nearly 6 weeks out from my second vaccination so am good to go. I’ll watch here for further updates.

That 32" monitor is about to get mounted on my office wall (to get it off of my desk), but I also have a 40" TV in the basement that I think would work as a monitor, but I'd need someone's help me bring it in from the car - if Panera would allow us to do it. I'm going to try to get down to Panera soon to discuss our group meetings with their manager - sure wish they had a back room.

My suggestion is to have the April meeting by Zoom and then the May one at Panera. This month we still have 1 or 2 participants who are not fully vaccinated and might be reluctant to attend in person. Zoom would allow Linda and the others out of town to easily attend and contribute. And in May the weather will be more pleasant if we want to meet outside. The extra month will give Lee a chance to check out the monitor situation. Once I used the Panera wifi (albeit many years ago, things could have changed!) and after 30 minutes I was kicked off. Thanks to Lee for initiating this discussion.

after 30 minutes I was kicked off

Yeah, that's their policy, 30 minutes, and I doubt that local managers have any control over the Wifi systems, even if they understand it, but I'll ask.

Jerry & Jeanette do not wish to attend. The weather forecast doesn't look good for us. The Zoom meeting would be our preference; however, May would be OK. Both of us are vaccinated.

Considering the current weather and the forecast, I think we should plan on doing a Zoom meeting again this month. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate in May (you never know in Colorado, do you?).

I'm keeping the zoom meetings on my radar even though they have ended up too early for me to join -
and I completely agree that once you return to your regular practice that you should concentrate on having the best experience for those physically present and treat the remote attendees as a filigree - nice to have, not essential.

I concur with all who choose zoom this month for all the reasons Martha and others have given. Weather forecast says 6”-10” snow Friday/Saturday for Franktown so I'll be home in any case! Looking forward to seeing you all.

See you guys Saturday!

For some reason, I am unable to reply to messages via the Rick Steves PM system.
I type in a reply, click send, and then it just says "Application Error" and my message goes nowhere.
So to the person who sent me a message: I will see you Saturday and reply to you then.

Hi Lee,
Can I join in on your meeting by Zoom? I have been joining the East SF group with Avi. It’s great to get to see my forum friends in person. I know you joined the East SF meeting at least once.

Could you send me Zoom link?

We can't do Zoom this weekend but we're marking our calendar for May 15 at Panera!

We have missed seeing and talking with everyone. Hopefully it'll be warm enough that we can use that patio room out back. We were both fully vaccinated by early February.

Any one needing the link to the virtual meeting can send me a private message and I will send the link.

Actually Tom & I won’t be at Panera on May 15. We’re making a quick trip to Belize and will be on our way home that day. FYI Denver people — I wasn’t aware til yesterday but we can fly direct to Belize City on United in under 5 hours. I was even able to get frequent flyer tickets. We’re staying on the tiny island of Caye Caulker. Vaccinated Americans are welcome; we’ll just need a negative test to get back in US (and we can get a rapid test on the island).

Good for you Charlene - getting down to Belize. I too will miss this month's meeting as I'm headed to do some hiking, camping, and backpacking in Cedar Mesa, Utah this week and won't be back till Sunday.

Edit - got my dates mixed - headed out this week so will wait to see what comes up for the middle of the month.
