My itinerary is Madrid>Granada>Valencia>Barcelona>FLIGHT>Marseille>Lyon>Paris>Milan>Venice>Florence>Pisa>Rome I'm debating between getting at 10 day youth 3 country pass and just buying tickets from point to point. From point to point it costs about $730, which I personally think is a lot. A 10 day day youth 3 country pass is $474, but from what I understand there are a lot of reservation fees. For some of my connections, the raileurope.com website lets me check the reservation fees, but for some it doesn't yet still says a reservation is required. Which is cheaper? Thanks.
Booked online in advance, point-to-point discount fare tickets will be cheaper than an adult railpass. However, since you qualify for a youth railpass, it can be a good deal, even with having to buy seat reservations or sleeping accommodation supplements for trains that require them. For one $50.00 fee you can buy as many reservations as you want from www.euraide.com at in-europe prices. Cheaper than from Rail Europe, but you still benefit from having the reservations in hand which is particularly important for popular night trains which often sell out weeks in advance. For a list of reservation fees, go here.
