Sorry to be asking another question but I'm very confused!
I've been trying to book the train from Amsterdam to Paris Nord. I've been to raileurope.com, and been directed to raileurope,co.nz, thayls.com and trainline.eu and have got varied results and prices. Some times are booked out on some and not on others, prices are quite different so don't know where I should be booking but need to get it done asap. as we're going end June.
Thanks again for your help!
this one https://www.trainline.eu/
amsterdam central to paris gare de nord
the train is Thalys you don't want to change trains and just go direct but these don't run all day
they run every 2 hours direct 7:17 9:17 etc.
It is pretty straight forward pick the time sometimes they sell out
and usually the good prices
yeah thats a good site seat 61 clear cut
You need to go here and start learning the ropes ! - http://www.seat61.com/
I don't think you can ever do better than booking straight from the originating rail company, in this case www.thalys.com. Don't ever use a website with the words" raileurope" in it. They are a travel agency, and they add a commission (and don't show you all the possible connctions).
I have only ever booked directly with rail companies.. SNCF for France, Eurostar for London-Paris and Thalys for Paris Amsterdam.. have done so multiple times.
Resellers also do not show you all the departure times sometimes.
I've always had good luck using Trainline.eu when booking trains in some countries (not Belgium). It's necessary to register on the Trainline site first, but after that the process should be very easy. As Lee suggested, the Thalys site is probably your best bet.
Why use a third party when you can book direct? Thalys.
Here's why.....the other day I bought a ticket from Innsbruck to Verona. Trainline's best price was 71 Euros. However, booking direct with Austrian Railways (OBB) I am paying 34 Euros for a reserved seat in first class. A big difference.
Ditto to using the Thalys site for this journey: we've done that one from Paris to Amsterdam.
Seat61 (seat61.com) is the best site to get the rundown on train travel throughout Europe and the UK. Loco2 (loco2.com) is the best and easiest 3rd Party site to book/pay for Europe and UK rail tickets, imo
If you want trains from smaller towns the thayls site does not seem to work. For instance I want to go from Paris to Ghent. Later from Ghent to Amsterdam thru Antwerp. Seems the only way I can book this is with raileurope. Any advice?
For Paris-Ghent get a Thalys ticket to "All Belgian Stations". This allows you to take any Belgian domestic train onwards from Brussels to any other station in Belgium. There are no reservations on Belgian domestic trains.
For Ghent-Amsterdam, book on b-europe.com
The Man In Seat 61, referenced above, has a great guide to where to buy tickets for each route: http://www.seat61.com/Europe-train-tickets.htm
