For a Paris pickup which rental car agency provided you with better service and accurate pricing Kemwel or Gemut? Or can you recommend another? Also has anyone picked up a car at the Carousel du Louvre and how did that work for you? Thanks!
I haven't used either Kemwel or Gemut, but I can put in a good word for Auto Europe. AE is a consolidator and finds you the best price from among the rental agencies with which it has contracts. In France my car was provided by Europcar. To avoid having to contend with Paris traffic, you could pick up your car at an outlet on the edge of the city in the direction which you will be traveling.
I also use Auto Europe and have always been happy with their service. I have driven in Paris and my advice is the same as Tim's...pick up your car on the outskirts. I will never drive in that city again!
I have used both AutoEurope and Kemwel, which are now under the same ownership but appear to often use different principal rental companies. I'd recommend both of them for accuracy of pricing and information. I've also heard good things about Gemut. But I'd avoid Hertz or Avis, at least unless you get them through AE or Kemwel and thus have that added level of protection.
Thank you all for the good advice on which rental agency to use. Maybe you can further enlighten me, the reason I chose the Carousel du Louvre for pickup drop off is on our return into Paris our hotel is near the Eiffel Tower and we thought a Louvre drop off would get us close enough to it so we wouldn't be hauling luggage too far. We travel light just one roller board each. This is our 5th trip to Paris/France and we have driven inside the city, call us crazy. Let me explain our itinerary maybe that will help clarify things: Oct 3: Land at CDG - stay at Hilton hotel/CDG Oct 4: Stay at Hilton hotel/CDG take RER into Paris for the day Oct 5: Take RER to Paris, pick up car at Carousel du Louvre at 11:00 AM, skeddadle out of Paris head towards Tours. (Airport pickup adds 40 Euro to the rental cost.) Oct 13: Return to Paris, drop off car at Louvre, go to hotel and drop off luggage
I am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks!
You don't seem to have a problem driving in Paris, so I don't really understand why you have a question. Just pick up the car where you want.
I have also used AutoEurope and Kemwel on several trips. You can check their rates online. I always like to talk to them personally to make final arrangements. For Gemut, you can call them or send them an e-mail for rates. As you have driven in the city of Paris before, your pick-up location should be fine. Just make sure they are open the day/hour you plan on picking up the car. Often times, downtown locations are closed during noon hours and are not open on the weekends. Have a great trip!
