Which rail pass and local one for Lauterbrunnen Valley?

After much research in Rick's book I'm still not certain if this is the right plan for our itinerary.
We are 9 days in Murren this summer coming from Rome on train and flying out of Zurich with this being our third trip to this beautiful area. We love to hike and will need to take the trains, gondolas, funiculars etc. within the area.
I've come up with the following plan, but am not sure it is the best financially, so I'd appreciate any advice:
1. Buy point to point tickets from Rome to Brig (hopefully online before we leave for Rome).
2. Buy a Swiss Transfer Ticket. Can I buy this at Brig (I read somewhere that this can only be bought outside SW)?
This will cover our trip from Brig to Murren and from there to Zurich on our last day.

3. Is it true that with the Swiss Transfer Ticket that I can purchase a Half Fare Card for half price? That will enable us
to use the gondolas etc. for half fare. Can this be purchased at Brig?

Any help with those who have maneuvered their way through this maze is appreciated.
Thanks!

The Transfer Ticket must be bought before your arrival in Switzerland. Yes, the Half Fare adder is 60 CHF, half the normal price of 120 CHF.
I calculate that doing this will save you about 1 CHF over just buying the Half Fare card and using it for all your Swiss travel.

The Swiss coverage kicks in from either Domodossola or Chiasso, depending on route so you can buy the Italian ticket just to that point. If you have the Swiss Transfer Ticket with or Half-Fare add-on, then besides a possible $1 savings, you save the step of buying discounted tickets for the Swiss portion of the trip into Muerren and out again on the last day.
