Flying from Scotland to the Frankfurt area around May 2nd. Would it be better to fly from Glasgow or Edinburgh and into Frankfurt or Frankfurt Hahn? Want to spend a few days along the Rhine before flying back to the states from Frankfurt
For the short distance (about 2 hrs) you'd probably prefer to go non-stop; the few flights showing are all from Edinburgh to Frankfurt (main airport) with BMI or Lufthansa.
Ryan Air flies from Edinburgh to Frankfurt Hahn. Hahn is about 120 km from Frankfurt, so you will need to take the regular scheduled bus, which costs 12 euro to either Frankfurt or Frankfurt Airport. If you are heading to the Rhine directly, get off of the bus at the airport and jump on a Regional train for the rest of your journey. We did this trip 2 years ago and got great prices. It was only 11 euro round-trip, so the 12 euro for the bus made the whole thing a bargain. Just read the website, about luggage, carry-ons, printing up your boarding pass, etc. The Rhine is an easy train trip from Frankfurt or Frankfurt airport.
