Where to stay near Munich Airport?

Hi,
My husband and I will be traveling from Salzburg on the last part of our trip. We are looking for somewhere to stay overnight the night before our flight home. Our flight leaves at 12:30pm. I hoping you could suggest a town nearby?
Thanks,
Wendy

I would suggest Erding or Freising. Both about 30-40 minutes from airport. Erding is a smaller town but has alot of history. Freising is larger and a bit more to see, although your time may be limited.

I would suggest Freising. Some people have stayed at Zur Gred and liked it. Freising is home to Weihenstephen, the world's oldest brewery.

Hi Wendy,

We have stayed in both Erding and Freising for our "last night" in Germany. I will say we liked Erding more. Very nice old town. By the way, both are roughly 15 minutes drive from Munich airport.

The bus from Freising Bhf takes 24 min and cost €2,40 pP (1 zone). From Erding it's 40 min and €4,80 pP (2 zones).

I like the Pension Siebel. It is only 200 feet from Munich's Viktualienmarkt -- outdoors in the Markt is where I prefere to spend a last night in Germany. Public transportation from there to the airport is fairly straightforward -- from the Munich Hauptbahnhof it is either S1 or S8 that runs to the airport (I cannot recall).

Both the S1 AND the S8 go to the airport, S1 from the western side of town, S8 from the east. It takes about the same amount of time from the Hauptbahnhof, so from Marienplatz, the S8 would be faster. However, they arrive at the airport every 10 minutes from alternate routes, so from most places in town, whichever one comes first will get you there soonest. From Marienplatz, the S8 is enough shorter, that you only have a 2 min interval where the S1 gets you there sooner. Since they leave from different levels, you might as well go to the level for the S8, Richtung (direction) Ostbahnhof, and take the S8.
BTW, if using the S1, the train splits in Neufahrn and the front part goes to Freising, the back part to the airport. The cars should be marked as to their destination. Make sure you get into the correct car.
