We've seen a few older discussions about staying near Heathrow for an early morning flight. Some suggest using the Hoppa bus service and others say use a taxi.
Has anyone considered a hotel a along the Piccadilly Tube line within about 15 minutes of Heathrow? I've been looking at a few hotels near the Hounslow and Northfields tube stations. We'll be travelling around the UK for a few weeks in May 2023. By the time we get to a hotel near Heathrow all we're going to do is relax for an hour or so and then get some sleep. We have an early flight out of Heathrow and were checking the hotels and transportation options near Heathrow. I'm thinking by getting close to Heathrow and then using the tube might be more reliable, timely and cheaper than using the Hoppa bus.
Does anyone see any flaws in this thinking? Thanks.
What terminal is your flight departing from? I find it easier to just stay at Heathrow. There are hotels at T2/3, T4 and T5. Sofitel at T5 is very nice but on the pricey side. T4 has a Premier Inn which is a nice budget option. I found the inter terminal trains to work well so just as easy to use as the tube.
Last summer we opted to stay at the Marriott at T2 for a noon flight; we wanted to be able to get to the terminal early to avoid the chaos that had been unfolding throughout the season. The hotel was comfortable and reasonably priced with a decent restaurant/pub. The airport shuttle in the morning had a nominal cost but was convenient.
I did the same thing last year. Unfortunately, the morning I had to leave for the airport The Piccadilly line was closed for repairs, so make sure you check that in advance.
Our flight will depart from terminal 2. Thanks for all the replies.
There is a Hilton Garden Inn connected to Terminal 2. A two minute walk from hotel to terminal. No trains, buses, taxis or anything else needed except your feet.
I agree with Frank II, the Hilton Inn at T2 is very good and it makes it so easy to get the Check in desks on the morning of departure.
We have stayed at that Hilton. Stay there and you can walk to your gate.
Last Oct I left from Heathrow and stayed at the Premier Inn on Bath Rd (closest to T2) the night before. It was especially good for a budget hotel-large clean room, OK restaurant. My only problem was I took the Hoppa Bus to get there and it is almost last on the route and took a LONG time. In the morning I took a taxi to the terminal and it wasn't that much more and got me there quickly. I'd stay there again.
for lurkers - for folks using Terminal 4, at T4 there are 4 hotels attached to the terminal by a fully enclosed bridge (I call it an above ground tunnel) to the terminal. Nearest the terminal is a large 6 storey building which is a Crowne Plaza on one side and a Holiday Inn Express on the other side, linked by air bridges with a column of lifts (elevators), and then a little further down the tunnel is a Hilton and then at the end of the tunnel is a large Premier Inn.
I was at the Crowne Plaza on Friday night and we loved it. The breakfast is fabulous. Staff really good. Nice Club Lounge. Very convenient, the tunnel comes out right into departure lounge, high numbered end.
I appreciate your post! My husband was planning to just head to Heathrow from downtown London, but after thinking about the timing for his 10am flight, we are going to reserve a hotel at the airport. He will leave from Terminal 3, probably. It’s a Delta flight that is now a Virgin Atlantic flight.
FYI - I will fly on to Ljubljana from Gatwick the same day at 1:30pm.
@ Jean, the bus from Heathrow to Gatwick (National Express) is pretty convenient.
On the date we are looking the Hilton is $250. The Premier Inn is $46. Since we really just plan to check in and sleep, get up and shower then head to the airport, we'll probably go with the Premier Inn then a taxi. We need to be at terminal 2 by 6:15AM. We can use the Hoppa bus as backup plan. Thank you everyone for your input.
