Where to park in Cinque Terre

We are traveling by car to Cinque Terre from Nice on April 30th-the day before the May 1 (Labour Day) holiday. We wonder if we arrive around 3:00 pm. where the best place to try and park is. We will park for 48 hours. Where is the best chance that the lot won't be full? Drive to Levanto or La Spezia? I've read La Spezia is not as easy as Levanto...
Thanks.

We have parked in Levanto twice and it has worked out well. We have gone around October 1st both times and found a free spot. (it is one hour parking in the summer, but free out of season. Not sure when "summer" begins. The reason we went to Levanto the first time is that we read about some car prowls in La Spezia (which is the more popular place to park.) Levanto is fairly small, easy to get around, and we have never had any trouble there.

Unless you are familiar with driving steep hills, leave the car in Levanto or La Spezia. I lived in San Francisco and some of the hills in CT looked pretty daunting to me. I met a couple who burned out a clutch in Riomaggiore.

I've only come into CT from the South. I parked in La Spezia. I skipped the parking at the station because it looked a little seedy (broken glass, graffiti, people loitering). Instead I parked across the street from the Navy base. I dropped everyone off, found a parking spot and walked back about a mile or so to the station. The car was fine and the parking was free.

If you're coming from Nice, you might want to park in Genoa instead but I can't give you any first hand information about that.

Contact the place that you are staying at and inquire if they have any parking spots, as you may be able to get a spot just above the town you are staying in.
