When to buy flight tix for April '08? (IND to CDG)

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are planning a trip to Paris next April. The best deal I can find right now for one round-trip ticket from Indianapolis to Paris and back = $900 (all taxes & fees included). This seems a bit excessive to me, but I haven't purchased my own international flight tix before, so I'm wondering what you experts think? Should I wait for a few months? Should I buy now?

Thanks so much for your help!

I would advise waiting a bit and watching the prices to see what is "normal" now. After the first of the year you should start to see deals on spring travel. If you watch for awhile now you'll have a better idea of what a good price is.

buy no later than January. when you see a fare that you are willing to pay, go for it. With fuel prices rising only more surcharges will be added on.

You have a pretty good deal already. With the way oil prices and the Euro exchange rate are going, I think you're getting close to a good fare.

I have been thinking same things lately, I am going in July, and normally would look in feb. but, now with the strong euro and the high oil price I think I will book much sooner, as in within the month.

Normally the "wait awhile" advice would work, but look at the externals, they are not "normal" ,,, Canadian dollar now stronger then yours,, first time I recall in my lifetime,, that is great for us, but it is not " normal" ,, so get to work and spend your dollars before they become cents,, LOL .

In addition to everyone else's advice, have you tried searching for O'Hare-Paris flights? A friend of mine flew out of there instead of Indianapolis. O'Hare flights are at least $100 cheaper. If possible, consider driving to Chicago for a better deal. As a general rule, bigger airport = smaller price.

Martine,

While in theory what you say is true, I found the opposite to work for me. Flying to Frankfurt from Austin, TX (via Dallas) is actually cheaper than driving to Dallas to catch the Dallas leg of the trip. This is on American Airlines. However, you make a good point that looking at other airports is a good idea. She might also want to look at flights from Cincinnati.

Laura, just check Chicago or Cincinnati. Delta is a big player in CIN. Don't forget to factor in th cost of getting to/from CHI or CIN plus any parking costs you may need to take on.
