Last week I wrote about the delays I encountered trying to get from JFK in NY to LHR in London. This is included canceled flights and long delays to wait for rescheduled ones.
So I wrote to American Airlines to see what kind of compensation I might get since I "technically" arrived the next day and lost a night in the hotel.
The response was, sadly, what I expected. Keep in mind I have high status with American and was flying in business class.
Basically I got a long letter apologizing for the incident and they understood my concern. While they couldn't compensate me for the hotel cost, they would consider any other out of pocket expenses during the time I was waiting for my next flight. I would have to send them receipts of what I spent in Dallas. (Dallas? I wasn't in Dallas.)
But because I am such a loyal customer, they added 20k miles to my Aadvantage account.
What a difference between US rules and EU rules.
